ERM, the worlds largest pure-play sustainability consultancy, are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Stakeholder Engagement specialist to join our growing Social Sustainability team at Managing Consultant level (in between Senior and Principal career levels). Hybrid working can be considered from any of our 16 UK offices, although you’ll be best connected with your team if based in Manchester, Bristol or London.

Our team is concerned with how the transition to a low carbon future impacts society and how society is consulted on the activities that impacts them. We explore themes such as climate justice, just transition, economic restructuring, equity, social license to operate, social performance, social value and social investment. 

We work across a wide variety of sectors including major infrastructure, renewables, diversified power, technology, transport, finance, and government organisations. Examples of our diverse clients include SSE, RWE, ESB, Voltalia UK, World Bank, Google, Microsoft, Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), Equinor, HS2 Ltd and Shell.  

For this role you’ll be interested in how infrastructure affects local communities. You will help manage impact assessments, review evidence, research policies, engage with stakeholders, conduct consultations, and write reports. You’ll supervise project teams, work with existing clients, build relationships with new clients, and help us win more business, contributing to company growth.

Responsibilities

  • Manage programmes of stakeholder engagement on infrastructure projects, including management of project scope and budgets across delivery team; 
  • Lead stakeholder engagement interface with clients and provide advice around stakeholder engagement and consultation activities;
  • Oversee production of materials to support engagement and consultation activities e.g. stakeholder engagement plans, consultation materials and consultation summary reports;
  • Work closely with wider Capital Project Delivery project managers, EIA managers and environmental topic teams e.g. Planners, to ensure alignment with consenting requirements; and
  • Undertake engagement with project stakeholders across local authorities, government, statutory and non-statutory bodies (including environment & technical organisations), industry & business, land & property and communities;
  • Lead the writing and preparation of work-winning and business development activities, including proposals, client presentations, and technical marketing initiatives.

Essential skills

  • Degree qualified in a relevant discipline such as Environmental, EIA, Planning, Sustainability, ESG
  • Experience working in a Consultancy environment
  • Knowledge of UK Infrastructure sector
  • Experience of UK planning regimes e.g. TCPA and DCO
  • Strong project management experience and skills including scopes of work and budgets
  • Comfortable and confident engaging with all types of stakeholders, including client and attending village hall meetings with communities
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills
  • Analytical and inter-personal skills with diligent attention to detail
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
