UI/UX Designer

About the Role:

As a contract UI/UX Designer on an early-stage team focused on ecology and vegetation identification, you will lead the redesign of mission-critical web interfaces, including user account management, data upload/annotation workflows, and a map viewer/results page for spatial data. You will work closely with active clients to gather feedback, conduct user interviews, and run A/B testing to refine the user experience. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape user interactions for a scientific platform and make a direct impact on the usability of tools used in conservation and biodiversity management.

How we do it:

Understory’s mission is to fight climate change and biodiversity loss by providing actionable metrics for environmental management and trusted verification for nature based solutions. We use a combination of drone and satellite imagery to identify vegetation down to the species level and quantify biological data. The resulting metrics provide measurable environmental performance indicators over the lifespan of an intervention or initiative. These data allow our customers to assess compliance for environmental regulation, verify sequestration in voluntary carbon markets, and improve outcomes from nature based solutions.
