Job Description:
The Meter Reader monitors commercial and residential customers’ use of water by driving to a designated location based upon a route and record meter readings; inspect meters for defects; and monitor and report abnormal usage volume or tampering.
Essential Functions:
- Operate a Company vehicle for travel to work areas, safely navigating and parking vehicle as designated to ensure public and personal safety in all job tasks.
- Whether by walking or driving an assigned route, access meters using a meter hook for lifting and removing lids, and use meter reader device to record meter readings.
- Obtain readings for ERT meters on customers’ private property.
- Enter trouble codes into meter reader device for meter boxes that are obscure, in hazardous condition, or not accessible, and/or would require longer than reasonable time to be spent obtaining a read.
- Document meters in need of repair.
- Repair/replace meter boxes, and replace lids/covers as needed.
- Perform minor repairs to meters/services; perform minor landscape trimming to assure access to meter/boxes.
- Prepare and operate service truck(s) daily including load needed materials and equipment, remove and dispose of debris, clean equipment and truck as needed.
- Prepare necessary reports for service completed, as required.
- Evaluate and set up appropriate traffic controls necessary to maintain a safe working environment per local, regional, and state regulatory and permitting requirements.
- Perform work safely by adhering to Cal Water Safety programs and policies as well as reporting hazards and unsafe conditions.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform other duties as assigned to fulfill business operational needs and objectives.
- Attend meetings and training as requested by New Mexico Water Service Company.
QUALIFICATIONS/ REQUIREMENTS
- A Meter Reader must be able to effectively communicate with their supervisor, co-workers and the public;
- Ability to perform basic mathematic functions to calculate figures;
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; and ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- This person must possess a High School diploma or equivalent,
- Possess a Class C Driver’s license, and be insurable under the Company’s policy.
Salary Range: $35,500 - $67,400
