Who we are

Tetra is leading the clean energy transformation by adding transparency and efficiency into a forgotten industry. Home improvement contractors are left in the past, lacking automation and technology to run and scale their small business. This leaves homeowners without the necessary information to make easy, fast decisions and creates a painful buying process.

Homeowners are unaware they can reduce carbon emissions and lower their utility bills. We provide the most efficient and affordable options to homeowners, improve their experience, and coordinate the installation of home improvement projects. In doing so, we're “super powering” contractors by automating admin tasks and allowing them to focus on installation excellence and customer happiness.

We’re starting by transforming heating and cooling replacements, a $120 billion industry which makes up 12% of total energy usage in the US. Federal and state government agencies allocate billions of dollars in incentives to help homeowners choose high-efficiency systems—now at unprecedented levels thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022—but the dollars are historically underutilized due to lack of customer awareness. We’re democratizing and unlocking those incentive dollars.

We started in Massachusetts, where we’re now 4%+ of the heat pump replacement market, and launched in New York in mid-2024, where we’re already seeing great traction, validating that our model has the potential to scale nationwide. With backing from the likes of Lerer Hippeau, Gutter Capital, Greycroft, and others, we’re now preparing to do exactly that.

About the role

The Expansion Associate will lead our launch and development of new markets. It will require someone who can learn extremely quickly and resourcefully, quickly translate learnings into action, and communicate exceptionally well with homeowners, contractors, and our team.

Our 30-strong team is mostly based near Boston and New York City, but we’re distributed across 12 states (and 7 countries) and work remotely. This role, while based wherever you call home, will require significant travel to and several months based in each of our new markets, likely to include California. You’ll report to Tetra’s Head of Expansion.

The impact you’ll have

  • You’ll be at the forefront of our expansion into new markets, from initial research, to preparing for entry, to launch, to post-launch scale and success. You might get involved in any one of these at a given time, so you won’t ever worry about getting bored.
  • As we fine tune our approach to each new market, you’ll be called upon to solve all kinds of problems, covering things like:
    • What kinds of systems to sell, or rebate programs to participate in.
    • How to customize our marketing and cater our pitch to market needs.
    • How to account for local housing characteristics in our software.
    • Finding us new contractor partners, and making sure our value prop to contractors resonates.
    • Building out our operational processes in the market and ensuring we hit ourambitious revenue, unit economic, and customer/contractor satisfaction goals.
  • You’ll work closely with our Marketing, Sales, Operations, and Product teams to continuously iterate and improve our go-to-market approach and operational execution.
  • You’ll help to hire and ramp up our first Sales and Operations hires in each new market.

Who you are

  • You have at least 3 years of experience in a rapidly-changing environment, like a high-growth startup. Sales and/or Operations experience is key.
  • You love solving problems. You don’t get stressed out by them, you correctly recognize them as fuel for progress, roll up your sleeves, and get to work.
  • You are energized by spending time with people, and also enjoy taking a step back to process what you’re learning and distill it into a clear plan.
  • You want to build the playbook for your role, rather than having one handed to you.
  • You’re an exceptional communicator, whether that’s navigating a homeowner through a stressful project, building rapport with a contractor, or presenting to a room full of people.
  • Any direct or indirect experience (e.g. through a family member) with HVAC or home services is a major plus, but not a must.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary with meaningful equity.
  • Unlimited PTO policy.
  • Fully paid parental leave.
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, and retirement plans.
  • Opportunities for career advancement and professional growth in a dynamic and innovative company.
  • Collaborative work environment that encourages creativity and innovation.
