Overview

RES is looking for a Water Resources Engineer with two to five years of progressive experience in the water resources or coastal engineering field to work on innovative projects in Florida.

The Mission

Join our team of engineers and professionals in Florida to develop nature-based solutions. This is a perfect opportunity for an Engineer to make an immediate impact on the design and implementation of unique and large-scale restoration projects.

Working for RES means having a career that truly makes an impact and a job that improves nature and our communities. Our people share a deep interest and passion for sustainability and ecological restoration. As an ever-growing company, we cultivate entrepreneurship, flexibility, and collaboration while taking a bold approach to project development. We foster a team environment while enriching individual growth.

As a member of our team, you will focus on projects for ecosystem restoration, water quality treatment, coastal resiliency, and improvements in complex watersheds, as well as solving unique ecological and hydrologic issues in various complex watersheds across Florida. Opportunities may include projects for large landscape-level flood mitigation; urban, sub-urban and rural stormwater retrofits; living shorelines; canal retrofits and nutrient reduction projects related to EPA’s Impaired Waters Rule/Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) and Florida’s Basin Management Action Plans (BMAPs).

What your day-to-day might look like?

No two projects will be the same, and you will assist with a variety of design tasks including feasibility assessments, plan development, cost estimating, and seeing projects that you had a hand in designing built in the field. As a consultant in hydrology and hydraulics, you will be responsible for developing and evaluating plans and criteria for a variety of engineering projects and initiatives; becoming familiar with permitting constraints; assisting with feasibility and concept development for watershed level stormwater management, stream and wetland restoration solutions and water quality treatment technologies and BMPs; identifying errors/malfunctions/omissions and implementing corrective actions.

You’ll get to flex your engineering muscles as you work on innovative designs that require developing new and/or improved techniques and procedures.

Work products are expected to be detailed, clear, and concise, so be ready to shine with your communication skills during the interview! You will be juggling several projects simultaneously, so superior attention to detail, feedback, and the ability to prioritize are paramount.

Occasional travel and field work are required.

Qualifications

We would love to talk to you if you have any of the following:

  • Bachelor's and/or Master’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Coastal or Agricultural Engineering with a water resources or environmental focus.
  • Engineer In Training license with the expectation to sit for the Florida Professional Engineering Exam within two years of hiring.
  • 2 to 5+ years of experience with stormwater management, watershed and floodplain management and planning, natural systems mitigation, living shorelines and restoration design and management, and/or stream and wetland design.
  • Experience with AutoCAD/AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Knowledge of basic civil site design fundamentals (i.e. grading, drainage, topography, coordination with survey, stormwater management, culvert/pipe sizing, open channel design, permeable pavements/surfaces).
  • Ability to research and analyze different treatment techniques and propose innovative restoration design approaches for water quality treatment and their impacts on nutrients and feasibility for water quality improvement at sites.

What will make you stand out?

  • PE License in the state of Florida.
  • Low Impact Development (LID) design experience.
  • Experience preparing water budgets and floodplain analyses, H&H investigation, evaluating groundwater hydrology, and assessing and restoring stream and wetland biological functionality.
  • Knowledge of watershed level hydrology, stream geomorphology, physicochemical processes, stream hydraulics, water quality, design/assessment of urban/agricultural water resource and nutrient management best management practices, aquatic ecology, and sediment quality and transport.
  • Experience designing ecological and hydrological restoration projects, including terrestrial, coastal, estuarine, aquatic, and/or wetlands restoration projects.
  • Knowledge of stream natural channel design, including geomorphology, physicochemical processes, stream hydraulics, aquatic ecology, and sediment transport in Florida.
  • Living shoreline design experience.
  • Direct experience with Federal/State/Local environmental regulations and staff and understanding of the Federal Clean Water Act, State Stormwater Rule, and other state and federal environmental regulations, and permitting processes.
  • Knowledge of field survey and data collection techniques for streams, wetlands, shorelines; monitoring wells, water quality and flow monitoring.
