We’re looking for a skilled Data Analyst Engineer with wind industry expertise; to collect, analyse, evaluate, and optimise wind farm efficiency. This role will require you to solve complex technical problems and support process improvements.

Our client, a major player in the global energy sector scene with over 1GW of renewable energy projects in operation, will afford you the opportunity to gain exposure in solar and BESS markets across Africa.

As an ideal candidate, you have 3+ years of data analysis experience with wind technology. Your specialties include the use of Matlab, Python, VBA, AVEVA PI, and/or SQL. Your problem solving skills and ability to analyse wind turbines will enable you to pinpoint and resolve technical issues. Your strong mathematical and research-driven approach to wind performance will allow you to review and investigate technical problems and identify possible solutions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Performance Support: Leverage your expertise in wind turbine systems, data collection, and analysis tools to troubleshoot and resolve complex performance issues efficiently
  • Problem Review and Resolution: Review and research technical problems to identify resolution paths, ensuring all solutions are underpinned by sound engineering principles and scientific analysis
  • Solution Path Identification: Identify possible solutions, assess the associated risks or costs, and present your findings to the relevant decision-making teams for informed decision-making
  • Support: Support techno-commercial discussions, working closely with stakeholders to conclude the implementation of performance solutions and ensuring they align with project goals
  • Evaluation: Evaluate and monitor the success or failure of implemented remediation actions, providing feedback and recommendations to improve future performance strategies
  • Data Analysis: Develop and manage analysis tools for wind farm performance, including automated underperformance triggers, manual tools, and end-of-warranty reviews, ensuring comprehensive reporting and support for operational efficiency
  • Equipment and Data: Understand the function of electrical or mechanical equipment in the power plant, using available data to build and refine analysis tools that provide valuable context to plant performance
  • Advanced Anomaly Analysis: Use machine learning and other advanced techniques to create sophisticated anomaly analysis, identifying potential issues before they impact performanceRoot Cause Analysis: Conduct retrospective data analysis to identify root causes of performance issues, using technical drawings, equipment manuals, and historical data to support findings
  • Testing: Perform reliability tests and power curve analysis for both existing and newly operational sites, ensuring turbines are performing at optimal levels
  • Modelling: Develop models and tools for predictive failure analysis, identifying early signs of potential turbine component failures to prevent downtime
  • Performance Improvement: Develop software tools and processes to track and analyse wind farm performance, using advanced analytics to identify underperforming components and implement strategies for continuous improvement and enhanced efficiency
  • Collaboration: Engage with third-party operational monitoring and performance analysis providers, managing data inputs, scope of service, deliverables, and ensuring performance improvement opportunities are realised in collaboration with asset managers
  • Commercial Awareness: Maintain commercial awareness of turbine performance and technical decisions, understanding their direct impact on the overall project economics and advising on cost-effective solutions
