About the Role:
BURN is seeking to hire a Finance Officer in Malawi to play a key role in managing and optimizing the company’s financial operations. This role will ensure seamless accounting, tax filing, and compliance processes by accurately reconciling sales, managing accounts, and maintaining crucial documentation. Additionally, the Finance Officer will support essential financial reporting, cash flow management, and regulatory compliance, contributing to BURN’s mission to uphold transparency and efficiency in its financial and HR functions.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support in collating data required for accounting and tax filing.
  • Ensure that all documents have the relevant approvals before forwarding for payment.
  • Maintain records of VAT invoices to support reporting to the revenue authority.
  • Ensure all supporting documentation (including tax-compliant invoices) is available and filed correctly.
  • Reconciliation of accounts receivable and accounts payables.
  • Reconciliation of B2C sales vs cash received and banked.
  • Reconciliation of stock flow report, sales report, and sales posted in the system.
  • Ensure that cash and cheques from sales are deposited promptly.
  • Petty cash management.
  • Assist with implementing and maintaining internal financial controls and procedures.
  • Assist with the preparation and coordination of the audit process when necessary.
  • Support with general tax, VAT and withholding tax filing.
  • Identify and address discrepancies on purchase invoices and receipts shared.
  • Raising of scrap sales invoices in the financial system.
  • Expense posting in the financial system.
  • Putting together imports documents for various suppliers.
  • Maintain a filing system.
  • Sharing monthly statements with the customers.
  • Bank agent.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements related to Finance.
  • Offer support on select HR functions.
  • Any other tasks as requested by the line manager and/or senior management.

Skills and Experience:
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a business environment at least 3 years in finance preferably the manufacturing industry.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations related to finance and.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or related field.
  • CPA or ACCA finalist or its equivalent.
