Senior Technical Service Specialist, Hydroprocessing Catalysts

The Technical Excellence team supports applications of our top tier hydroprocessing catalysts, collaborating with our customers and our sales, R&D, and business teams to maximize performance and profitability.  The team is looking for a Senior Technical Service Specialist to drive growth with key strategic customers and support the organization and Energy Industry as we innovate for the new Energy Future.  

As Senior Technical Service Specialist, you will provide expert-level technical advice to both external hydroprocessing customers and the internal hydroprocessing team.  Working with sales to support key strategic customers at a corporate and site level, you will support the sales of highly specialized and customized product solutions into customer sites through the development of strategies and proposals, support of technical activities, and advanced troubleshooting.  Within the Technical Excellence group, you will mentor other technical service engineers, develop best practices, and support the growth of the global technical team.  Within the organization, you will work with key stakeholders to drive value and sales success to achieve Ketjen’s business objectives.  

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE 

•    Bachelor’s or higher level (preferred) Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
•    Minimum 10 years of experience in hydroprocessing, related to at least one, or a combination of, the following disciplines: 
* Refining (Operations and/or Process Engineering)
* Research & Technology
•    Significant knowledge of specialized hydroprocessing technologies
•    Experience with hydrocracker operation is strongly preferred 
•    Extensive experience with troubleshooting 
•    Strategic insight to pull relevant market data and processing experience to build convincing value propositions for customers, resulting in the growth of Ketjen’s business  
•    Strong leadership / people management skills
•    An inquiring, flexible and service minded attitude
•    Communicative skills: an eye for consultation, listening, and being able to respond clearly and with arguments
•    A strong mix of technical and commercial skills is required to be successful


PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

Customer relationship:
•    Play a key role in maintaining contact with strategic customers through technical consultation and support.  
•    Act as the first point of contact for all customer departments (R&D, HQ, technical centers, refineries, etc.) to provide coordinated technical activities and messaging across all parties. 
•    Lead projects for the customer to drive innovative, complex catalyst solutions across their refining networks. 
•    Analyze customer unit data and provide reporting (presentations, analysis) back to the customer and apply learnings to improve performance. 
•    Respond to customer proposal requests, predicting performance through model forecasts and writing and presenting technical offers that meet operational and economic objectives to customers in collaboration with Technical Sales

Acquisition:  
•    Play an active role in acquiring new customers and retaining important existing customers
•    Prepare and give presentations on unique applications and associated value for existing / new customers
•    Introduce new products to targeted customer contacts

Technical expertise:  
•    Communicate Ketjen’s technical knowledge to customers and stakeholders
•    Translate information from the market and customers into unique value propositions to drive sales of Ketjen hydroprocessing products
•    Initiate, evaluate and report test work for presentation to the customer
•    Maintain customer goodwill and promote the image of Ketjen Catalysts
