Morningstar Sustainalytics is seeking a Human Rights subject matter expert as part of the Product Excellence and Oversight Team. The core focus of the role is to create, as well as maintain, a Human Rights framework that can be applied across products to enhance the methodologies. This is for the flagship product Risk Rating as well as for products like the Global Standards Screening and Controversies (among others). The position will report to the Cross Product Thematic Team Lead. 

Key job responsibilities

  • Be an internal expert on Human Rights issues and their implications through an ESG investing lens.  

  • Develop an internal framework that will ensure research teams consistently and accurately incorporate human rights issues into the full suite of Morningstar Sustainalytics’ ESG products. 

  • Assess the appropriateness of the Human Rights data points that are provided by Sustainalytics Morningstar and suggest enhancements to meet the market expectations. 

  • Help to ensure that relevant internal and external stakeholders are kept up-to-date on issues related to human rights. 

  • Assist with in-depth analysis and thought leadership in the areas of human rights. 

  • Respond to internal and external human rights queries. 

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders in the organization, including our research, client relations and product strategy, regulatory and development teams. 

  • Provide assistance in the creation and enhancements of client solutions and services relating to human rights. 

  • Contributes to thought leadership by writing or supporting work related white papers, blogs etc.

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in a related discipline (international law, international human rights law). 

  • 3-5 years of experience in assessing issues related to human rights. 

  • Knowledge and understanding of the Responsible Investment market and financial services industry. 

  • Independent, flexible and resourceful nature. 

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, international and technical environment, as well as to embrace change. 

  • Excellent research, analytical and writing capabilities. 

  • Meticulous attention to detail. 

  • Very good interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to form good working relationships with colleagues of all levels and across cultures. 

  • Excellent business English (speaking and writing skills). 

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
