Our Opportunity

We are currently seeking an Associate/Estimator for our Construction Consulting Practice in Oakland, CA. In this role, you will work as part of a team involved in projects relating to construction project estimating, bid analysis, project management and controls, program management and controls, construction claims and contract dispute resolution and related construction consulting services.

You will be responsible for

  • Preparing material, labor, and equipment cost estimates for concept designs, design development documents, bid documents, and change orders
  • Completing cost analyses and quantity takeoffs on an as-needed basis
  • Evaluating construction trade bids
  • Presenting results of cost analyses to senior staff and clients
  • Planning and analyzing project costs
  • Developing, updating, and analyzing project schedules
  • Tracking and managing project scope changes and project risks
  • Reviewing project documents and performing document control
  • Preparing project and program status reports
  • Supporting requests of project leads and clients

You will have the following skills and qualifications

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Structural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or related discipline plus 1 - 5 years of industry experience (internships included) or M.S. plus 0 - 5 years of industry experience (internships included); advanced degree(s), Registration and Certifications are preferred
  • Ability to work within project teams with a strong desire to contribute
  • Ability to interact effectively with both internal and external clients
  • Proactive and self-driven to navigate complexities and resolve hurdles
  • Strong analytical thinking and data management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of construction means and methodology
  • Ability to read and understand design information
  • Knowledge of common construction-related software including Bluebeam, Primavera P6, MS Office, and Google Workspace tools
  • Experience in contract dispute resolution and construction claims, litigation services and construction consulting services is a plus, but not necessary
  • Close attention to detail, thorough in execution of tasks, and timely in task completions
  • Presently legally authorized to work in the US, no immigration sponsorship or visa processing required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Estimating experience (quantity takeoffs, unit pricing, estimating factors; engineering design knowledge and project management experience desirable)
  • Data center connectivity/telecommunications experience
  • Network and cabling experience
  • Database management and fluency with relevant programming languages such as Python or SQL

Compensation

Our consultants are rewarded for their technical and business contributions and have an opportunity to plan for future success and career growth. Exponent's total compensation plan is consistent with its expectations of the quality and quantity of work performed and with the professional standards set by Exponent. At the Associate and Senior Associate level, total compensation includes base salary, bi-weekly bonuses for high-intensity efforts, annual bonus and 401(k) employer contribution of 7% of base salary.

 

The base salary range for this position is dependent on experience and capabilities which will be assessed during the interview process.

Salary Range

USD $95,000.00 - USD $110,000.00 /Yr.
