This is a great opportunity to join our Microbiology department in Wolverhampton, working within our state of the art fast paced laboratory. 

The purpose of this role is to be a key member of the laboratory management team supporting the overall operation ensuring the laboratory operates to the required ISO 17025 standard in-line with the Eurofins QMS. 

This is a full time permanent role, working 37.5 hours per week - Monday to Friday 10:00 - 18:00. 

  • Own the day-to-day management of the main production laboratory, supporting the department manager (production and technical) to deliver service levels to expected standards.
  • Act as deputy to the Department Manager (Production & Technical) in respective areas. 
  • Prioritise the Health and Safety of the team and ensure all processes and risk assessments are reviewed to scheduled timelines and after any incident.
  • Support and develop a zero-accident culture though robust hazard reporting, improvements and audits.
  • Develop a culture of continuous improvement that drives process efficiencies and operational excellence.
  • Own the 5S process in the laboratory utilising the continuous improvement function to support and train the team to drive improvements.
  • Support, coach and mentor the team leaders under your remit to ensure they can deliver the required level of service, develop and support their teams and in still the required standards within all roles.
  • Knowledge of Laboratory Quality Management System in order to ensure compliance at all times with the policies, procedures and associated documents which are referred to in the system.
  • Ensure that all work carried out complies with documented procedures for all aspects of laboratory work, that all relevant information concerning samples is recorded, that samples are handled correctly, that worksheets are kept in an orderly manner.
  • Ensure that are staff are suitably trained and all training documents are suitably maintained including ongoing competency.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained and serviced to the correct standard ensuring it is all safe to operate and is fully calibrated.
  • Ensure complaints and NCWs are completed to a high standard and in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with the local quality team to ensure full compliance of all parts of ISO 17025 alongside customer specific requirements.
  • To ensure in conjunction with the quality team, that EQA, IQC and DPC systems are maintained, and non-conformances are investigated.
  • Represent the laboratory in external audits (regulatory/client audits etc.). 
  • Drive TAT to the highest possible level whilst maintaining a tight control on cost and resource levels.
  • Manage waste through the laboratory ensuring this is minimised.
  • To manage the team, including recruitment, training and development, mentoring, motivation and disciplinary matters.
  • Work closely with the Analytical Services/Customer Service team to ensure a high-level of customer service.
  • Support customer requirements and be a key-link to ensure customer requirements are translated within the laboratory. 
  • As required complete internal audits in-line with the audit schedule for the site.
