Job Description

ACCIONA is at the forefront of sustainable infrastructure development, with a focus on renewable energy, water, and transportation projects that positively impact communities. Our Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) division is expanding its capabilities in the energy sector, particularly in the design, construction, and delivery of substations and high-voltage infrastructure.

Role Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Substation Design Manager with a proven track record in managing substation projects from concept to completion. In this role, you will lead a team of designers and engineers to deliver efficient, safe, and high-quality substation designs that meet project requirements and regulatory standards. This is an opportunity to shape ACCIONA's substation projects, supporting our mission to enhance Australia's energy infrastructure sustainably.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Led and managed the design team responsible for developing substation layouts, single-line diagrams, equipment specifications, and protection schemes for substations ranging from 66 kV to 500 kV.
  • Oversee all aspects of substation design, including electrical, structural, and civil engineering components, ensuring alignment with project goals and Australian standards.
  • Coordinate with project stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and internal teams, to ensure the timely and cost-effective delivery of substation design projects.
  • Develop design strategies and solutions that meet technical, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Support tendering activities by providing technical insights, cost estimates, and design proposals that align with ACCIONA’s strategic objectives.
  • Conduct technical reviews, manage quality control processes, and ensure that all design documentation meets industry and project standards.
  • Mentor and support the development of junior engineers and designers within the team.
  • Stay informed of advancements in substation design technology and incorporate best practices into projects.

Required Skills and Competencies

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Power Systems, or a related field; a master’s degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in substation design, with at least 3 years in a managerial or lead role.
  • Extensive knowledge of Australian standards and regulatory requirements for substation and high-voltage transmission systems.
  • Proven experience in project management, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or eligibility to obtain chartered status is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to coordinate cross-functional teams and work collaboratively with stakeholders.
