About General Galactic

At General Galactic, our mission is to build a fossil-free future and revolutionize the world’s energy supply chain. We’re a seed-stage deeptech startup developing Genesis – a modular hardware platform that converts emissions into 100% fossil-free hydrocarbon fuel, directly compatible with today’s energy infrastructure. Our technology is built to enable the new era of clean energy independence on Earth, as well as the next generation of space missions beyond.

Job Description

You will work closely with the founders and technical team to develop critical technology for our systems. You’ll have extreme ownership over your work, move quickly, and operate with high agency. As we grow, there will be opportunities to expand your role with the company.

You will lead modeling and simulation efforts to inform the development, scale-up, and integration of General Galactic’s novel carbon conversion technology. Responsibilities may be tailored to the candidate’s profile and could include:

  • Build, validate, and make recommendations based on high-fidelity dynamic models, including heat and mass transfer, reaction kinetics, electrochemical phenomena, etc.

  • Use FEA, CFD, and/or basic programming languages (python, MATLAB, or similar) to characterize critical subsystems and processes

  • Translate experimental data into models and simulations that inform technology scale-up

  • Work closely with design and process engineers

  • Design of testing and experimentation to evaluate system performance

  • Ownership of outcomes and direct contribution to the growth of the company

  • Build first-principles models with increasing fidelity

Requirements

Successful applicants should have most of the following:

  • 5+ years of experience in a relevant industrial or startup setting – building models and simulations for chemical/electrochemical processes

  • Understanding of technical challenges associated with scaling and deploying a commercial hardware solution in the energy space

  • Demonstrated expertise in transient modeling and simulation (e.g. COMSOL, ANSYS, python, MATLAB, OpenFoam, Ansys, ChemKin, etc.)

  • Demonstrated expertise in model validation with experimental data

  • Demonstrated expertise in data analysis

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong engineering background and first-principles approach to problem solving

  • Ability to perform trade studies and technical analyses, and make clear recommendations using first principles even with incomplete or partial information

  • Strong degree of comfort in a laboratory environment

  • Experience in a fast-paced startup environment or similar
