About General Galactic

At General Galactic, our mission is to build a fossil-free future and revolutionize the world’s energy supply chain. We’re a seed-stage deeptech startup developing Genesis – a modular hardware platform that converts emissions into 100% fossil-free hydrocarbon fuel, directly compatible with today’s energy infrastructure. Our technology is built to enable the new era of clean energy independence on Earth, as well as the next generation of space missions beyond.

Job Description

You will work closely with the founders and technical team to develop critical technology for our systems. You’ll have extreme ownership over your work, move quickly, and operate with high agency. As we grow, there will be opportunities to expand your role with the company.

You will lead electrochemical development, scale-up, and integration of a novel stack design, and support early customer demonstrations and manufacturing readiness. Responsibilities may be tailored to the candidate’s profile and could include:

  • Design, build, and operation of novel, low-cost water electrolysis systems

  • Design of testing and experimentation to evaluate system performance

  • Analyze data and provide recommendations for future development

  • Modeling and simulation of electrochemical system performance

  • Oversee scale-up, integration, and manufacturing of commercial-scale electrochemical systems

  • Interface with internal and external stakeholders to design and scale up processes based on customer and internal requirements

  • Ownership of outcomes and direct contribution to the growth of the company

Requirements

Successful applicants should have most of the following:

  • 3+ years of experience directly working with electrochemical hardware OR 5+ years of experience managing electrochemical design and development

  • Experience with scale-up, manufacturing, and assembly/integration of commercial-scale electrochemical systems

  • Strong engineering background and first-principles approach to problem solving

  • Ability to perform trade studies and technical analyses, and make clear recommendations using first principles even with incomplete or partial information

  • Understanding of technical challenges associated with scaling and deploying a commercial hardware solution in the energy space

  • Experience with data analysis in MATLAB, Python, or similar

  • Experience with lab scale control systems (e.g. LabVIEW or other PLC)

  • Strong degree of comfort in a laboratory environment

  • Experience in a fast-paced startup environment or similar
