About the Job

About the Opportunity

*Full-time role employed directly by CarbonNeutral Consulting, S.L., a Skyven Technologies Inc. partner*

*Applicants must be based in Madrid, Spain or surrounding regions and have the ability to work onsite 2-3 days per week*

At Skyven Technologies, we have developed a revolutionary heat pump technology to decarbonize industrial heat and move the needle on climate change. Our technologies have the potential to completely eliminate on-site CO2 emissions from industrial steam. We implement this technology through an innovative Energy-as-a-Service model that provides clean process heat to industrial facilities. We identify, fund, design, build, and install our cutting-edge, decarbonization technologies to help industrial manufacturers reach their sustainability goals, while minimizing their risk and reducing their operational expenses.

Industrial heat is responsible for roughly 20% of global CO2 emissions. That’s roughly equivalent to emissions generated by all transportation (including land, sea, and air) and is a compelling business opportunity – it will take an estimated $3.7 trillion in capital investment to decarbonize the sector by 2050. Skyven is at the forefront of this transformation and has recently been selected for a $145M investment from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to accelerate the deployment of our state-of-the-art Skyven Arcturus steam-generating heat pumps (SGHPs) at manufacturing facilities nationwide, revolutionizing how we address energy needs while combating climate change.

About the Role

We are looking for an organized and hands-on Process Simulation Engineer with expertise in process design and simulation for capital projects. This role will focus on designing, enhancing, and supporting process simulation solutions that enable clients’ decarbonization and electrification goals, particularly in the deployment of heat pump technologies and Mechanical Vapor Recompression (MVR) systems. The ideal candidate will demonstrate practical and problem-solving abilities while leading process engineering and simulation efforts from feasibility studies and conceptual design through commissioning phases of projects. This position is an individual contributor role, reporting to the Director of Process Engineering at CarbonNeutral Consulting, with close collaboration across Skyven Technologies’ Solutions Architecture, Project Management, and Product Management teams.

Responsibilities

Project Initiation and Planning

  • Oversee the initiation, planning, and design phases of engineering projects, including new process development and system modifications.

  • Define and manage project scope, objectives, and deliverables to align with client goals and regulatory requirements.

Process Design and Compliance

  • Develop process designs that adhere to hygienic standards, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to create safe, efficient, and effective project designs.

Engineering Analysis and Calculations

  • Perform and review mass and energy balances, equipment sizing, NPSH, and hydraulic calculations, while preparing detailed specification data sheets.

  • Create comprehensive process descriptions, capacity models, equipment lists, and utility requirement documentation.

Process Simulation

  • Utilize process simulation tools (AVEVA Process Simulation Renewables, Utilities, and Dynamics) for in-depth analysis, optimization, and troubleshooting of chemical processes.

  • Create and analyze Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and other simulation models.

  • Simulate operational scenarios to enhance system performance, minimize costs, and maximize efficiency.

  • Validate simulation models using historical or plant data to ensure accuracy and reliability.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Coordinate and document clear communications on project requirements, alignment, and updates with the in-house team, management, and clients, summarizing key takeaways from meetings to ensure smooth information flow.

Project Management

  • Maintain and present engineering reports, highlighting project progress, challenges, and potential improvements.

Quality Assurance and Compliance

  • Ensure all engineering deliverables comply with industry standards, licensor specifications, and regulatory requirements.

  • Develop and implement quality control measures to maintain excellence in project execution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related field

  • Fluent in Spanish and English

  • 2+ years of experience in process design, process simulation, and engineering for capital projects

  • Experience utilizing AVEVA Process Simulation Renewables, Utilities, and Dynamics process simulation tools

  • Experience performing data analysis on simulation data in MATLAB or similar

  • Strong fundamental understanding of thermodynamic principles and mass & energy balances

  • Strong knowledge of equipment selection and design

  • Ability to analyze complex processes, identify issues, and propose effective solutions for projects

  • Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, technicians, and professionals from various disciplines

  • Proven project management skills such as planning, executing, and overseeing projects

Preferred

  • Master’s degree or higher in Chemical Engineering or related field

  • Experience utilizing Aspen HYSYS and Aspen Plus process simulation tools

Benefits

  • Competitive salary & compensation package

  • Flexible working arrangement

  • Domestic and international travel opportunities

Location

  • Hybrid schedule; 2-3 days per week in office required

  • Applicants must be located and eligible to work in Madrid, Spain or surrounding regions
