Location: Melbourne, Australia

Salary: $180,000 - $220,000 + super

Closing date for applications: Wednesday 11th December 2024

Kaluza wants to power a world where net-zero is within everyone’s reach, by building the platform that will accelerate a sustainable, affordable and resilient energy transition. It’s a huge challenge, but often the toughest problems are the most rewarding to solve.

Since launching in 2019, Kaluza’s technology has been empowering some of the biggest energy suppliers to better serve millions of customers.

From revolutionising billing to smart electric vehicle charging, our real-time cloud platforms transform supplier operations, reducing cost to serve and boosting engagement. And most importantly, they enable suppliers' customers to drive decarbonisation with smart, low carbon technologies.

Kaluza is currently in an exciting growth phase, undergoing the next phase of our international expansion in Melbourne to further reinforce our capabilities as a globally distributed energy platform.

We're in the early days of building our team and so in-office presence to us is important - working really closely with our clients to forge a strong working relationship. Our team currently works from our office in Melbourne CBD (Spencer St) 2-3 days per week.

Our goal is to build a self-sufficient and empowered team here on the ground in Australia. We’re well on our way, but until we get there we still have some reliances on our UK team. Being comfortable working flexibly for a portion of your working week to cover time zones is required.

Where in the world of Kaluza will I be working?

You'll be joining the Kaluza Technology community. We’re a large team of both data-led and product focused Software and Production Engineers, pushing the boundaries of technology and working at an extraordinary scale. As a collective we strive for engineering greatness and by ensuring best practices across the board of the community.

You’ll be working on the Kaluza’s Energy Retail platform. This is a SaaS technology platform that aims to revolutionise the operating platforms for energy retailers globally. This platform is built with scale and technical quality in mind and is the foundation for decarbonisation efforts by Kaluza’s customers.

Here at Kaluza we are 100% committed to providing a reliable platform for our clients. As part of that commitment, our engineering ownership model is “you build it, you own it.”  Our engineering teams have a high sense of ownership and support their critical services both in and out of normal working hours. After hours support is assigned according to a paid roster.

What will I be doing?

You will lead our regional Client Engineering team to lead development of region- and client-specific solutions on the Kaluza platform and serve as a trusted advisor to our clients.  You will become an expert on the Kaluza software-as-a-service products: how they work and how to integrate with and extend them.  With our clients’ success as your top priority,  you will combine this expertise with your knowledge of the energy industry and technology ecosystem to drive high quality, high value solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop relationships with client stakeholders and advise them on technical aspects of their Kaluza projects, guided by a deep understanding of their goals, technology ecosystem and the Kaluza platform
  • Build and lead an engineering team who support client integration efforts and build region-specific solutions using our global platform
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to your team to ensure they can ship features quickly while developing in a sustainable way
  • Create and deliver against the technical strategy for your team in partnership with other engineering leaders
  • Promote engineering and delivery best practices within the team
  • Work within a team of other senior leaders responsible for designing and evolving platform capabilities
  • Provide solution expertise to guide development activities performed by our client, third-party partners, and other Kaluza teams
  • Highlight client-requested features and emerging trends to other product / engineering teams to help shape the global platform
  • Work with the Solution Architects to ensure Kaluza engineering teams have the necessary understanding of the clients’ technology ecosystem and its integration architecture
  • Participate in the resolution of incidents, including providing guidance to the response team based on client-specific considerations

Is this the job for me?

Ideally you'll have/be:

  • Experience in software engineering leadership and client service in an agile environment
  • A bias to action and a ‘Can do’ approach to problem solving in the face of uncertainty
  • Experience of building, managing and leading multiple engineering teams
  • Experience of mentoring, training and developing other engineers
  • Experience in the energy retail or utility industry (not essential)
  • Familiarity with supporting clients in high-level solution design decisions and throughout complex integrations and migrations
  • Alignment with the Kaluza values and mission

Kaluza Values

Here at Kaluza we have five core values that guide us as a business:

We’re on a mission, We build together, We’re inclusive, We get it done, We communicate with purpose.

Our values are not words on a wall — they are at the heart of our culture. They are how we make decisions and how we treat each other. They are concrete and clear, and reflect what we as people, and as a business, really care about.

Kaluza’s vision is to power a world where net-zero is within everyone’s reach. Would you be interested in joining us to help achieve this?

From us you’ll get

We're just getting set up in Australia for the first time, so we'll build out our full benefits offering in the coming months. Currently, from day one, you will get:

  • Progressive leave policies - including leave dedicated to the moments that matter to you the most
  • Annual discretionary bonus
  • Dedicated personal learning and home office budgets
  • Flexible working — we trust you to work in a way that suits your lifestyle
  • 26 days holiday

We'll then build out our benefits and progressive policies soon to ensure your Total Reward package is highly competitive, and that you're well looked after.

We want the best people

We’re keen to meet people from all walks of life — our view is that the more inclusive we are, the better our work will be. We want to build teams which represent a variety of experiences, perspectives and skills, and we recognise talent on the basis of merit and potential.

We understand some people may not apply for jobs unless they tick every box. But if you're excited about joining us and think you have some of what we're looking for, even if you're not 100% sure, we'd still love to hear from you.
