Data Engineer

Your role

Fastned aims to accelerate the transition towards sustainable mobility by giving freedom to electric drivers. You do this by building data products to empower our decision making. Gathering, wrangling, and transforming data is second nature to you and you are obsessed with building well thought out processes that guarantee quality, reliability and scalability. You get excited about exploring new data sources and can’t wait to integrate and unleash them to the wider organization. From ensuring high network availability to optimizing customer experience, you will ultimately be contributing to building the next generation of fast charging mobility solutions.

Your overall responsibilities include

• Technical proficiency: Being comfortable to build and discuss trade-offs of data pipelines that are robust, scalable, efficient, reliable and self-healing. Data ingestion, modeling, streaming, and maybe reverse ETL all sound very familiar.

• Multidisciplinary teamwork: Contribute to cross-functional problem solving by understanding stakeholder needs and translating them to technical requirements, towards designing the best suitable data solution.

• Tooling ownership: Propose and implement best practices in accordance with existing processes, including CI/CD and tools like dbt, git, etc. that allow for faster development cycles.

• Real impact: Build powerful data driven products that ultimately elevate the EV charging experience by improving our team’s performance and insights.

Who we are looking for

In order to be successful in this role you bring along a highly entrepreneurial mindset - we want our employees to ‘Think like a founder’. You are joining a (growing) 5 people Data team and you will become our second Data Engineer, therefore there is a lot to be built from scratch! This means that you actively seek out opportunities for improvement and don’t shy away from sharing and experimenting with ideas. You don’t hesitate to push the boundaries when needed, so if ingesting some data the right way requires you to sit next to a business stakeholder who has deep knowledge in some very specific IoT domain, you’ll just do it.

You also enjoy having a wide range of responsibilities, covering the whole spectrum of Data Engineering: while a big part of your role will be about ingesting data and making it available in a relational data model, you will of course also contribute significantly to maintaining our data infrastructure & tooling (Databricks, dbt, Hightouch, Fivetran, etc.) and help us evolve and improve our ways of working as a Data team.

Ideally, you have a background in software development or data engineering. Specifically, you tick as many boxes from the following as possible:

• 3+ years of hands-on experience as Data Engineer or Software Engineer

• Strong affinity with the energy transition and Fastned’s mission

• Proficiency in the languages Python and SQL is a must

• Proficiency in a distributed data processing framework, such as Apache Spark (preferred), Flink or Beam

• Solid understanding of data modeling techniques, database design principles and data warehousing concepts

• Familiarity with data pipeline optimizations, parallel processing and synchronization techniques

Bonus points for experience with:

• Experience collaborating with data analysts and data scientists in taking decisions to improve our data infrastructure and ways of working as a team

• Software development besides data pipelines

• Streaming technologies like Kafka, Kinesis or Spark Structured Streaming

• Lakehouse technologies, like Databricks and the Delta Lake format

• MLOps frameworks and processes

• Experience in IoT, Mobility or Telecom domains
