The role

We are seeking an experienced Social Expert to manage social aspects of power and infrastructure projects in Pakistan. This role focuses on conducting social impact assessments, fostering community engagement, and ensuring alignment with social sustainability standards. Strong knowledge of urban and rural social dynamics and regulatory frameworks in the power sector is essential. The Social Expert will work with multidisciplinary teams to integrate social considerations into all project phases.

  • Conduct comprehensive social impact assessments (SIAs) for power sector and infrastructure projects, identifying potential social risks, benefits, and mitigation strategies.
  • Develop and implement robust community engagement plans, particularly focused on power and utility projects, to ensure community involvement, support, and trust.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report on the social impacts of projects, adapting engagement and impact mitigation strategies as required.
  • Ensure full compliance with national and international social standards, specifically in the context of energy and infrastructure development.
  • Prepare and present detailed social assessment reports for internal and external stakeholders, including project teams and clients.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement workshops, public consultations, and social initiatives to foster positive relationships and community support.

With a track record of achievement in a related role, you will have gained your experience in a consultancy environment and have a passion for building trusted relationships to drive positive change and win new work.

Suitable applicants will have/be:

  • Tertiary qualifications or a related discipline (e.g. Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Social Development or similar field)
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in assessing social impacts, implementing mitigation measures, resettlement planning, and managing Right of Way (RoW).
  • Proven ability to oversee social and resettlement aspects of infrastructure or power sector projects.
  • Experienced in handling social impacts related to power transmission and distribution projects.
  • Familiarity with projects funded by Multilateral Development Banks is advantageous.
