The Role

We are seeking to engage a Principal Engineer - Energy & Renewables for our Power and Energy Team. This role can be based in Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne and will take the lead in design of our Energy / Renewable / BESS / T&D Projects across ANZ.

Tapping into your ability to juggle multiple priorities, you’ll be contributing to managing a variety of divergent activities (within a discipline), providing technical expertise, contributing to the strategic direction and providing supervision and leadership to employees within the discipline.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Planning and managing complex large scale projects. This will include coordinating the preparation of: cost estimates, tender submissions, technical documentation, client reports and monitoring project progress, project scheduling/resourcing, and meeting deadlines and budgets
  • Assuming Project Director responsibilities
  • Providing significant informal supervision, leadership, mentoring and coaching of more junior staff
  • Developing new client relationships & enhancing existing relationships for developing new business
  • Developing proposals including leading a team to deliver the proposal
  • Assisting in the development, implementation and achievement of the team business plan
  • Carrying out specific agreed design tasks to meet agreed outcomes and cost structure
  • Monitoring the interaction of various disciplines and providing specialist knowledge where required
  • Overseeing the development of functional specifications that meet the client requirements
  • Producing reports on innovative outcomes to a high intellectual standard
  • Independently identifying programs and problems to be investigated
  • Liaising with project managers and appropriate stakeholders to ascertain information required to undertake design and documentation tasks.
  • Managing work financially, technically and contractually to ensure that it meets technical requirements and is performed within the bounds of the organisation's policies and procedures

About You

Suitable applicants will be/have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Engineering) or Equivalent
  • Extensive technical engineering experience in Renewables / Energy / T&D / Substation Design / BESS is essential
  • Member of Engineers Australia; CPEng, RPEQ
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Business planning, budgeting and commercial acumen
  • High level consulting and client management skills
  • Proven high level project management skills
  • An understanding of the business / organisation / marketing context of business solutions
  • High level of client service orientation
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively within a diverse and multi-disciplinary environment
  • Skilled in undertaking a co-operative and flexible work style to work in a team environment
  • Ability to source and apply new knowledge including industry information
  • Highly skilled in managing competing priorities and working under pressure
