Job Description:

Associate

Are you passionate about developing innovative solutions to the climate crisis and supercharging the equitable transition in rural areas? Do you want to join a diverse and highly skilled global team where you will make a lasting impact? If yes, then this is the role for you!

We highly encourage individuals of underrepresented groups to apply!

Your Impact

The Associate will support equitable climate transition efforts in rural China, including accelerating energy transitions, non-CO2 emission reductions and infrastructure decarbonization in rural areas.

You’ll be part of RMI’s China program, which uses the Think-Do-Scale approach and integrates powerful market forces with a systemic transformation model to accelerate a just and equitable decarbonization of China's major carbon-emitting sectors, and to achieve the country's "dual-carbon" goals. Regardless of your background or level of experience, you will have the opportunity to help bring about change in the world that you might not find anywhere else in your career.

This role will report to the Manager, Rural, Agriculture and Equity Team, RMI’s China program

Major Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide analysis on policies and their impacts, and provide recommendations as useful, based on high-level policies on agricultural and rural carbon neutrality on a national, industry, or local level.

  • Analyze the decarbonization pathways in rural China and forecast trends in cost economics of various types of decarbonization technologies.

  • Analyze and summarize leading international market mechanisms and business models to help contextualize successful experiences in rural China.

  • Synthesize quantitative information and recommendations into clear and compelling presentations and written reports.

  • Conduct expert interviews, with the ability to guide conversations professionally and extract key content efficiently while building rapport with industry experts.

Core Skills and Experiences

  • Graduate degree or higher and about 1-2 years of additional relevant experience.

  • Excellent spoken and written English and Mandarin.

  • Excellent analytical writing skills, visual presentation capability, and verbal communication skills.

Desired Skills and Experiences

  • Research experience in rural energy transition, agri-food system decarbonization, and knowledge of the status of low-carbon development in rural China.

  • A solid understanding of rural carbon neutrality fundamentals, related policies, and value chain dynamics.

  • Excellent quantitative processing capabilities to present complex concepts and modeling analysis results to policymakers and industry leaders.

  • Demonstrated initiative and accomplishment in previous work.

We encourage anyone who is interested in this role to apply, regardless of whether you feel you meet 100% of the qualifications. The top candidates will bring their own unique perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds from a variety of industries along with many but not necessarily all the skills listed above. We offer professional learning and training opportunities to help you develop the skills you may not have had the opportunity to cultivate yet.
