Job Title: Manager, Ethics and Compliance

Overall Function
The Manager, Ethics and Compliance will be an integral member of the HR, Ethics, and Infrastructure team, working in collaboration with Legal and Compliance, Procurement, Grants, Internal Audit and HR team members to support and refine EDF’s Ethics-Based Compliance Program. The Manager will facilitate and support the implementation and sustainment of the organizational ethics and compliance program designed to create and sustain best practice systems, policies, and tools to enable our people and organization to act ethically, stay in compliance, and operate within our EDF values. This role will directly support the organization in identifying, addressing, and resolving unethical behaviors, conflicts of interest, or other misconduct in line with EDF’s code of conduct and in close collaboration with relevant stakeholders. The role involves problem solving, drafting, investigative skills, and the application of donor and regulatory requirements to EDF’s operations.

Key Responsibilities:
- Policy Development, Implementation, and Maintenance: Work collaboratively with Policy Owners to develop, regularly update, and implement policies and procedures that support ethical conduct across the organization. Facilitate and track participation in training sessions and workshops to ensure staff are well-informed of EDF’s ethical standards and compliance requirements on topics such as Anti-Bribery, Anti-Corruption, Conflicts of Interest, and more. Maintain and update as appropriate EDF’s internal policy database.
- Case Management and Reporting: Document compliance cases within the case management system and manage cases by engaging relevant stakeholders and ensuring timely progress toward resolution. Support as needed in gathering appropriate documentation and ensuring it is treated according to confidentiality, privacy, and document handling best practices. Develop and enhance compliance reporting metrics to ensure effective tracking and reporting of ethics and compliance issues to senior management.
- Internal Controls and Compliance Monitoring: Support the development and maintenance of robust internal controls that prevent unethical behavior. Monitor compliance and proactively flag inconsistencies, concerns, and potential areas of risk to censure alignment with EDF’s global ethics program.
- Conflict of Interest Oversight: Track and manage conflicts of interest and other compliance risks in collaboration with HRBPs, Legal, and other stakeholders as relevant. Develop strategies and frameworks to mitigate these risks, maintaining the integrity of the organization’s operations.
- HR Support: Act as a primary ethics and compliance resource for HR Business Partners, providing ongoing support in the detection, investigation, and resolution of compliance issues. Ensure HRBPs are equipped with the necessary tools and knowledge to uphold the organization’s ethical standards.
- Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Support: Participate in advancing EDF diversity, equity, and inclusion goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF values. Proactively integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion principles into all ethics and compliance initiatives. Ensure that all team members feel empowered and valued, contributing to a cohesive and supportive work environment.
Qualifications
- 6+ years of experience with in-depth exposure to global compliance and ethics standards, anti-bribery/corruption laws and regulations, risk assessments and audit response plus Bachelors or equivalent relevant experience.
- Strong attention to detail, deadlines and organization required.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex and sensitive issues with discretion and confidentiality.
- Experience with developing, maintaining, implementing, promoting and managing an ethics and compliance program and code of conduct.
- Track record of translating complex compliance concepts into operational practices.
- Excellent writing, analytical, research, organization and interpersonal skills, with sound judgment and ability to influence and work with others in a growing, global operation.
- Ability to communicate complex concepts to a variety of audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively across functions, geographies, and levels in a fast paced, professional team environment.
- Demonstrates self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds.
- Non-profit business and compliance experience a plus.
- Familiarity and experience with various donor requirements (US Federal, UK, EU, etc.) a plus.
- CCEP or Certified Fraud Examiner status a plus.
