Salary: $12,196 - $15,266 per month plus state pension plan

Are you a manager with experience in energy demand response programs and clean energy research? California Energy Commission (CEC) is hiring a Supervisor for the Demand Flexibility Unit in our Energy Research & Development Division (ERDD).

The Demand Flexibility Unit works to develop technologies and practices that will help meet California’s goal of doubling its ability to shift electric load by 2030. The unit focuses on the use of smart technologies to continuously optimize energy use for grid services, occupant needs and preferences, and cost reductions.

Energy Research & Development Division (ERDD) deploys over $300 million annually to advance technology innovation and research supporting the state’s clean energy and climate goals, including in the areas of renewable energy supply, building and industrial decarbonization, sustainable transportation, energy storage, energy distribution, resilience and reliability, and carbon management.

Our Demand Flexibility Unit is part of the broader Industry & Carbon Management Branch in ERDD, which advances innovation in several related areas: (1) energy efficiency, demand flexibility, electrification, and other decarbonization strategies in the industrial and agriculture sectors and at the water-energy nexus; (2) carbon management technologies and strategies; and (3) long duration energy storage.

** Telework option available, but hired candidate must reside in California before starting.

Desirable Qualifications:

Experience in energy technology innovation and demand flexibility or demand response.

Leading technical programs or projects.

Ability to supervise a team to produce timely, quality work products.

Ability to operate in a fast-paced work environment, with a high level of organization, and to manage multiple priorities.

Ability to productively address and resolve conflict.

Ability to represent the Division and CEC in meetings, conferences, hearings, and workshops with state and federal agencies, the Legislature, companies, research organizations, communities, and other stakeholders.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, including with non-expert audiences.
