Role

Orenda is looking to hire a Site Design Engineer to join its Execution team. This individual will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing the design of a portfolio of energy storage projects in New York in compliance with all applicable codes and technical requirements. If you are interested in taking ownership of your work at a leading infrastructure developer in a rapidly growing industry, this position is for you.

What You’ll Do

  • Analyze and understand all site specifics, codes/standards/regulations, mandates from AHJs and ConEd as well as technical supplier product requirements that are applicable on a project by project basis.

  • Source and qualify a roster of third-party engineering firms. Negotiate technical scope of service on a project by project basis.

  • Review drawing sets prepared by third party engineering firms to verify compliance to all requirements derived from AHJs, ConEd and equipment manufacturers.

  • Continuously explore and qualify through relevant due diligence opportunities to introduce value engineering ideas into the project designs. Perform due diligence of new technical solutions.

  • Produce drawings when needed to insert into narratives prepared to support the permitting process.

  • Provide technical support to Procurement Manager.

  • Provide technical support to Project Managers during the construction phase of the project. Review contractor change orders and provide recommendations to Project Managers. Support the review of third-party inspection reports and of as-built drawings.

Qualifications

  • MS in engineering

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in project design of MW-scale power generation projects. Knowledge of energy storage technologies, a plus.

  • Strong knowledge of project design processes. Proven ability for innovative thinking and value engineering.

  • Fluency in AutoCAD.

  • Excellent problem solver with an affinity for difficult problems and following through to solve them.

  • Extremely organized and process oriented.

  • Keen attention to detail. You don’t need someone to inspect your work. And when you’re inspecting someone else’s, no matter their seniority, you point out errors or inconsistencies.

  • You are clear about fact versus interpretation and would never pretend to know anything that you don’t. You’re comfortable identifying gaps in your knowledge and asking for help.

  • This role is based in NYC; there is no flexibility for remote work – we come to our Dumbo, Brooklyn office every day.

  • Passionate about clean energy.

  • Relentlessly positive attitude, strong work ethic, and sense of humor.

  • A keen interest for system engineering

  • Professional Engineer License in NY.
