Software Engineering Intern

We are a team of tenacious engineers, operators, and creatives who have solved hard problems and are here to do it again.

We’re looking for a highly motivated, intellectually curious, and mission-driven Software Engineering Intern to join our team. Interns at Base work on meaningful, high-impact projects and are treated as full members of the team. You’ll be expected to ship real features and contribute directly to the business from day one.

Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and deploy production-grade software.

• Collaborate with engineers across the stack to solve technically complex problems.

• Contribute to the reliability, performance, and scalability of our software systems.

• Take ownership of projects and deliver work that directly impacts our mission.

Required Skills / Qualifications:

• Strong software engineering fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, systems design).

• Demonstrated ability to build working software, either through side projects, coursework, or previous internships.

• Clear, concise communication and a collaborative mindset.

• Curiosity, humility, and the drive to solve real-world problems with code.

Areas You Can Work In:

• Fleet Software / Embedded Systems: Develop software that runs on the edge of Base’s distributed network. Work on embedded Docker containers, relay control, and bootloaders that help keep families' power on.

• Internal Software: Build internal cloud-based systems that serve as Base’s secret weapon. From managing fast-growing data pipelines to integrating external APIs, you’ll build tools that replace entire departments at traditional companies.

• Market Infrastructure: Design and maintain the backend infrastructure that powers our production algorithms, controls our fleet, and transacts with energy markets.

• Product Engineering: Craft mobile and web applications that customers love. Redesign how people interact with energy in an industry known for clunky tools and poor user experience.
