Energy System Modeler - Remote / San Diego

VECKTA’s Operations team has one central goal: facilitating the VECKTA mission of deploying energy systems. We do this from A-Z by: Advising commercial and industrial energy users about the value of onsite energy to their business, guiding them through our marketplace, and ultimately leading them to the development of groundbreaking onsite energy solutions.


What you’ll do:

The Energy Systems Modeler is a translator. You're responsible for understanding a client’s goals, then guiding them to develop the onsite energy solution which best achieves them.


On a typical day, your workflow will include:

  • Collaboration with the business development team to understand customer objectives (e.g. resilience, cost reduction, emissions reduction);
  • Gathering, manipulating, and managing customer data and modeling parameters;
  • Working with technical and cost data for distributed energy resources (wind, solar, storage, hydrocarbons), utility tariff structures and onsite energy system financing;
  • Executing techno-economic analysis (we’ll teach you what you don’t know yet);
  • Sharing compelling business cases with decision makers, including financial projections and system specifications.


Success in this role means your advice and insights will empower businesses, from local legends to the Fortune 500, to start building renewables-driven energy systems.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in quantitative/analytical field or equivalent experience with analytical modeling work
  • Demonstrated success solving analytical problems independently
  • Comfortable working remotely
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills


Bonus Qualifications (highly desirable, but not requisite)

  • Relevant industry experience in the energy industry and/or a start-up environment
  • Exposure to utility tariffs and/or distributed energy resources (solar, wind, energy storage, hydrocarbon generators)
  • Familiarity with the energy regulatory environment
  • Experience working with energy modeling software tools
  • Experience cleaning and visualizing data using tools such as R, Python or Excel
  • Familiarity with electrical engineering principles
  • Desire to develop a more decentralized, planet-friendly energy future
