About Us:
Anode exists to accelerate the monumental shift away from the supersystem of extraction, processing, and burning of fossil fuels - toward lightweight capture and consumption from entirely renewable sources. While decarbonization seems to be beyond our horizon, we remain undaunted. The long arc of energy consumption must bend toward sustainability. We believe in energy from renewable sources, seamlessly integrated into everyday life. The future is silent, efficient, zero-emission, flexible, distributed, and clean.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a Senior or Staff Data Scientist with experience as a Data and/or Software Engineer. The ideal candidate has a deep skillset in Data Science and modeling, but can also flex as a Backend Engineer to build their own datasets, tools, and production code from scratch. The systems developed by this person will drive the logistics and operational optimization of cutting-edge mobile energy storage systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop models and simulations of energy storage dynamics to optimize the operation and utilization of mobile battery energy storage systems
Define scheduling and optimization algorithms to model real-world logistics and power systems
Bootstrap a data pipeline and warehousing strategy to collect and analyze time series telematics and debugging data
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define software and system-level architectures that meet performance and safety requirements
Conduct code reviews and provide mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
Collaborate with firmware, systems, and product team members to determine where development efforts will have the greatest impact
Foster data as a core tenet for decision-making at Anode
Must Have:
5+ years of relevant experience
Strong proficiency in modeling, simulation, and modern data science techniques
Experience with constraint/cost function optimization, OR (operations research), or other mathematical modeling in production
Proficiency in core web competencies including SQL and relational database design
Experience writing “production ready” code and owning it throughout deployment
Relevant experience independently driving development roadmaps and supporting operations in production
Strong desire to own and understand product from end-to-end (you will likely need to answer “why” build something in addition to “how”)
Willingness to learn new skills and flex into all aspects of software development and deployment
Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Bonus Points for Experience With:
Time series data storage architecture and analysis
Bootstrapping data pipelines, warehouses, lakes, or other data storage buzzwords
Machine Learning
Track record in developing production software for robotics, battery management systems, power systems, electric vehicles, or other relevant industry
Exposure to energy and power systems
Understanding & experience working with externally facing communication standards for energy systems or electric vehicles, such as SunSpec, IEEE 2030.5, UL 2900, SunSpec DER Cybersecurity, etc.
Previous experience working in a fast-paced, start-up environment, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in addressing new challenges
