Job Summary

This position is the intermediate level of the Procurement classification hierarchy.  Employees will manage the procurement of goods and services that align with Supply Chain requirements and Business Unit specifications, ensuring most advantageous pricing and terms while meeting customer’s require dates. Employees at this level solve more complex problems, with some areas of specialty, with general direction from Management. Incumbents are expected to have advanced skills and the ability to work with greater independence. They effectively apply fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is complex and varied.

Responsibilities

  • Provides advanced procurement services such as but not limited to issuance and management of goods and services type purchase orders and purchase contracts, amendments and change orders, requests for quotes, pricing and quantity validation, inventory and material transfers, terms and conditions negotiations, expediting, logistics, invoice resolution, confirmation of contractor safety rating, and payment terms application

  • Drive substantial and sustainable cost avoidance and savings through supplier negotiations and/or identification and implementation of process efficiencies and inventory reduction. Negotiates pricing, discounts, value, and competitive differentiators.

  • Provides advanced guidance to the business unit on procurement process, best sourcing options, materials management strategies including transfers, cost controls, and avoidance of procurement issues

  • Collaborates effectively across organizational levels, sites, functions, businesses, and regions to realize sourcing goals and objectives

  • Understand supplier capabilities, establish relationships with new suppliers, and improves relationships with existing suppliers

  • Demonstrates advanced capabilities with analyzing and evaluating supplier performance

  • Ensures compliance with supplier agreements

  • Ensures that purchase orders and contracts are in compliance with all Supply Chain Sourcing Standards, corporate policies/procedures,  business requirements, federal and state laws and regulations, and Duke Energy business standards

  • Manages daily, monthly, and quarterly reports

  • Actively supports our safety culture

  • Fully embraces operational excellence, being proactive and aspirational for continuous improvement opportunities

  • Supports after hours emergent duty phone

  • Includes after hours and weekend support

Required/Basic Qualifications (Procurement Specialist)

  • Bachelors degree

  • Minimum of 2 years required related work experience

  • High School/GED degree + 6 years related work experience

Required/Basic Qualifications (Senior Procurement Specialist)

  • Bachelors degree

  • Minimum of 5 years required related work experience

  • High School/GED degree + 9 years related work experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous sourcing, procurement and contracting experience

  • Materials Sourcing/Procurement

  • Services Sourcing /Procurement

  • Contract management

  • Microsoft Office Suite

  • Maximo experience

  • Strong negotiating skills

  • Advanced analytical, problem solving, business acumen & customer service skills

  • Demonstrates a strong sense of urgency and proven desire to learn

  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Strong multitasking skills

  • A natural time manager with the ability to prioritize a robust workload with attention to detail

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Demonstrate advanced planning, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both onsite and remote locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to the assigned Duke Energy Facility.

  • The assigned work location is Duke Energy Plaza, Charlotte, NC with onsite 3 days per week and when required and directed by their manager

  • This position requires after hours and weekend support

  • May be occasionally around construction/maintenance activities

  • May require travel to other internal business locations/facilities

  • May require some travel to vendor locations
