About the Job

Talen Energy is seeking an Engineer for our Montour Steam Electric Station located in near Washingtonville, Pennsylvania.  EOE M/F/D/V


This position is responsible for performing challenging engineering work with varying degrees of direct responsibility and levels of supervision. Specific job positions may include planning, designing and/or overseeing construction, installation, operation and maintenance of components, systems and facilities used in the generation, transmission, distribution and utilization of electrical energy in a power plant facility. 


Primary responsibilities will be to:

  • Act as key engineering interface for day-to-day plant maintenance and operations activities.

  • Support the planning and implementation of maintenance outages.

  • Focus on maintaining or improving equipment condition and performance, being cognizant of available techniques and practices.  Identify and assist in resolution of emergent equipment issues.

  • Coordinate with vendors as applicable, for related products and services.

  • Prepare and maintain necessary technical documentation and operating and performance history records.

  • Assist the maintenance and operations functions with troubleshooting activities, and with startup and shutdown tasks.

  • Be available to provide engineering support as needed for a 24x7 operation (be available for overtime and callouts).

  • Assist in the work on smaller engineering projects or well-defined areas of larger projects.

  • Use existing procedures to investigate, evaluate and assist in producing technically correct and cost-effective designs or recommendations that solve ongoing problems.

  • Build relationships that will facilitate knowledge transfer, cross functional knowledge of related work groups, and ability to present work products effectively.

  • Gather and correlate basic engineering data using well defined engineering procedures, which may include routine and diagnostic testing of components and systems, and engineering studies.

  • Assist in a variety of topics including developing innovative procedures, improved design recommendations or new or better equipment purchase recommendations.


Basic Qualifications

Engineer

●    Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, or other related science discipline from a college or university accredited by ABET, or recognized by ABET as substantially equivalent.

Support Engineer

●    Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, or other related science discipline from a college or university accredited by ABET, or recognized by ABET as substantially equivalent.

●    Minimum 2 years related engineering experience.

Senior Engineer

●    Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, or other related science discipline from a college or university accredited by ABET, or recognized by ABET as substantially equivalent.

●    Minimum 5 years’ related engineering experience.

Principal Engineer

●    Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, or other related science discipline from a college or university accredited by ABET, or recognized by ABET as substantially equivalent.

●    Minimum 10 years’ experience, with recognized expertise in power plant engineering.


Preferred Qualifications

●    A working knowledge of power plant is preferred. Must be able to work independently with minimal oversight. 

●    Ability to multi-task and deal with ever changing priorities.

●    Experience working with large rotating equipment (turbines, generators, fans, pumps).
