The position

The General Operative will support civil and general site works on solar farms, ensuring tasks are      completed efficiently and safely. This role involves operating machinery, handling materials, assisting skilled workers, and maintaining a clean and safe site environment.

Accountabilities

  • Assist in the construction, maintenance, and repair of roads, drainage systems, and other infrastructure
  • Removal of vegetation and obstructions from under frameworks
  • Replace or repair damaged fencing around site perimeter
  • Operate construction equipment such as diggers, dumpers, and excavators under supervision
  • Carry out manual labor tasks including lifting, digging, and moving materials
  • Prepare and maintain construction sites by setting up barriers, fencing, signage, and other necessary safety equipment
  • Ensure all materials are handled and stored correctly, following all safety regulations
  • Perform general maintenance of site tools and equipment
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations on-site
  • Assist skilled workers such as technicians, electricians and contractors
  • Support in the excavation, groundwork for ducting works etc
  • Monitor and maintain a tidy and organized work area
  • Report any issues or concerns regarding equipment, safety, or work progress to the site supervisor
  • Follow project plans and timelines, contributing to timely project delivery

Knowledge

  • Basic knowledge of construction processes, tools, and equipment

Skills

  • Understanding of site safety regulations and willingness to adhere to safety protocols
  • Willingness to work in varying weather conditions
  • Full UK driving license
  • Ability to work well as part of a team

Experience

  • Previous experience in a general operative or labouring role, ideally within the civil engineering industry

Qualifications

  • CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card (preferred but not mandatory)
