Job Description

This role is responsible for developing and implementing rigorous industrial engineering processes to optimize manufacturing operations and engineering workflows for complex nuclear systems. Using advanced operations research techniques and data analytics, this position focuses on process development, continuous improvement, and production planning to ensure efficient, high-quality manufacturing operations. The Industrial Engineer establishes and maintains process frameworks that support model-based systems engineering practices while optimizing resource utilization and operational efficiency at X-energy.


 

Job Profile Tasks/Responsibilities

  • Lead the execution of the core tasks and responsibilities, listed in the Job Profile Task/Responsibilities section of this document, without close supervision and some latitude for independent judgment.

  • Provide feedback and guidance to more junior team members with the execution of the core tasks and responsibilities listed in the Job Profile Task/Responsibilities section of this document.

  • Lead small groups of engineers to solve complex technical problems and deliver high quality engineering work products on time and within budget.

  • Develop and implement comprehensive process frameworks for engineering operations, including model-based systems engineering workflows within Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.

  • Lead process optimization initiatives using advanced operations research techniques and data analytics.

  • Design and implement production planning and control systems, including:

  • Capacity planning and resource allocation

  • Production scheduling and sequencing

  • Inventory management systems

  • Material flow optimization

  • Quality control processes

  • Conduct industrial system simulation studies to:

  • Model and analyze production processes

  • Evaluate alternative process designs

  • Optimize facility layouts and material handling systems

  • Validate process improvements

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives using structured methodologies to:

  • Identify and eliminate waste in processes

  • Standardize work procedures

  • Implement pull systems and visual management

  • Establish process control methods

  • Develop and maintain advanced analytics systems for:

  • Process performance monitoring

  • Quality metrics tracking

  • Resource utilization analysis

  • Predictive maintenance planning

  • Create and implement standard operating procedures and work instructions.

  • Design and optimize supply chain processes including:

  • Supplier integration methods

  • Inventory optimization models

  • Logistics network design

  • Material handling systems

  • Collaborate with training teams to develop and deliver process training programs.

  • Write and review engineering documentation, reports, and communicate technical details and project progress to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Perform work in accordance with X-energy quality assurance procedures.

  • Always maintain professional demeanor and behavior in all forms of communication.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager.


Job Profile Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, or other engineering related discipline from an ABET accredited institution required

  • Typically, ten years of experience in an engineering role.

  • A master’s degree in engineering or related field (may include a combination of experience obtained through an academic institution, e.g., design projects, research, or design teams, as well as professional experience) may be in lieu of two years of experience.

  • A Ph.D. in engineering or related field (may include a combination of experience obtained through an academic institution, e.g., design projects, research, or design teams, as well as professional experience) may be in lieu of three years of experience.

  • Previous experience at X-energy exceeding performance standards may be in lieu of years of experience.

  • Experience and/or knowledge in the following areas:

    • Operations Research & Data Analytics:

      • Linear and integer programming

      • Simulation modeling and analysis

      • Statistical process control

      • Design of experiments

      • Machine learning and predictive analytics

    • Process Optimization:

      • Lean manufacturing principles

      • Six Sigma methodologies (Black Belt preferred)

      • Continuous improvement techniques

      • Value stream mapping

      • Process capability analysis

    • Production & Logistics:

      • Production planning and control

      • Inventory management systems

      • Supply chain optimization

      • Facility layout and design

      • Material handling systems

    • System Lifecycle Processes (ISO 15288)

Location:  530 Gaither Road, Rockville, MD

Work Site Expectations: 4-5 days in office

Travel Expectations: 10% (as needed for project assignment)
Hours:  Standard office hours are 8:00am ET to 5:00pm ET, Monday - Friday


Compensation

As required by Maryland and other applicable state law, X Energy, LLC (X-energy) lists the expected compensation range for a publicly advertised job opportunity based upon the job requirements (e.g. education/training, experience, skill sets, etc.).  Individual candidates who meet the job requirements for the posted position will be offered a salary within this range based on their respective levels of education/training, experience, and other qualifications unique to them.  Salary ranges may vary based on the specific office location and region referenced in the posting to take into consideration differences in cost of living and may not be reflective of all regions.  Please note that compensation ranges listed for US job postings reflect base salary only and do not include benefits or other incentives. 


A reasonable estimate for this position at the level of experience required is:

$133,650 - $170,775
