About Redwood Materials

Redwood Materials was founded in 2017 to create a circular supply chain for electric vehicles and clean energy products, making them more sustainable and driving down the cost for batteries. We’re doing this by developing and deploying new technologies to increase the scope and scale of recycled and sustainable materials in the global battery supply chain.

Technical Program Manager, Battery Sorting

 Essential Duties:

We are seeking a Technical Program Manager (TPM) to lead a cross-functional engineering program for X-Ray and Software-based automated battery sorting. This role will focus on managing the development and integration of advanced imaging systems, robotics, and AI-driven software solutions to support Redwood’s mission of recycling all types of batteries. The ideal candidate has experience leading complex, multi-disciplinary engineering projects and excels at working with teams across hardware, software, and industrial automation.

If necessary, we will adjust the job level to suit your experience and responsibilities.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Drive the end-to-end execution of a highly technical engineering program, ensuring seamless integration of X-ray imaging, software, and mechanical automation into Redwood’s recycling processes.

  • Develop project roadmaps, milestones, and execution strategies, aligning cross-functional teams across software engineering, mechanical design, automation, and imaging technologies.

  • Manage program risks, dependencies, and technical challenges, proactively resolving issues to keep projects on track.

  • Collaborate with engineering and research teams to define requirements, validate designs, and support iterative prototyping.

  • Work closely with software developers, robotics engineers, and imaging specialists to ensure seamless data integration and system performance.

  • Oversee vendor and supplier coordination for hardware and software components, ensuring alignment with Redwood’s quality and sustainability goals.

  • Lead technical reviews, sprint planning, and status updates to ensure clear communication of program progress and priorities.

  • Optimize workflows, data processing, and automation strategies to improve efficiency and scalability.

 Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.

  • 2+ years of experience in technical program management within hardware/software integration, robotics, imaging systems, or industrial automation, or 5+ years of experience in Mechanical Engineering for such products.

  • Strong track record of managing complex, interdisciplinary projects that involve mechanical, software, and imaging components.

  • Experience with X-ray imaging systems, AI-driven software development, or robotics is a strong plus.

  • Proven ability to manage software development projects, including AI/ML applications, data processing, and real-time automation.

  • Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering principles as they relate to system integration.

  • Excellent problem-solving, leadership, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, startup environment with shifting priorities and aggressive timelines.

  • Experience with Agile development, Jira, and program management tools.
