About the Job

We are seeking a Fluids System Build Engineer to design, procure, and oversee construction of fluid systems for testing advanced equipment. This role involves specifying components, assembling and integrating fluid systems, and ensuring reliable operation under test conditions. The ideal candidate has experience with high-pressure systems, fluid dynamics, and working with hazardous gases and liquids. This position requires hands-on work in a fast-paced environment with up to 40% travel to our test site in San Bernardino, CA.

Arbor’s team of world-class engineers and scientists are developing a scalable, low-cost approach to Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) based on modern rocket engine technology. BECCS is a carbon dioxide removal (CDR) approach that uses biomass to produce energy and remove CO₂ from the atmosphere and store it permanently underground, while ensuring food security, rural livelihoods, and biodiversity are not affected. Our modular technology leverages the power density of supercritical CO2 to enable compact gasification, oxy-combustion, and high-pressure turbo-expansion to convert abundant waste biomass into clean electricity, water, and high-purity CO2, capturing and sequestering all emissions from the process. Our team brings together a passion for science, technology, and global stewardship to make low-cost, high-quality carbon removal and baseload power a reality.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and specify fluid system components, including pumps, valves, regulators, and piping.

  • Procure and manage inventory of fluid system components and materials.

  • Manage modifications, new construction, and commissioning of fluid systems to support equipment testing.

  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.

  • Work closely with test engineers to optimize fluid system design requirements performance.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to fluid system operation.

  • Develop documentation, including schematics, equipment data sheets, procedures, and maintenance plans.

  • Support commissioning and field operations at test sites as needed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or a related engineering field.

  • 3+ years of experience designing and building fluid or piping systems.

  • Knowledge of pumps, valves, regulators, and pressure vessels.

  • Experience with high-pressure and hazardous fluid systems.

  • Strong hands-on fabrication and assembly skills.

  • Ability to read and create P&IDs and system schematics.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with API, ASME, ANSI, and NFPA fluid system standards.

  • Familiarity with cryogenic, high-pressure gas, and high-performance liquid systems.

  • Knowledge of welding, tubing, and pipefitting techniques.

  • Experience in commissioning activities such as leak testing, pressure testing, and instrumentation validation.

  • Proficiency in CAD tools (such as Siemens NX) for 3D design of piping and equipment layout.

  • Comfortable working in a startup or R&D environment.

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Benefits:

Equity: The business opportunity for carbon removal technology is growing rapidly, and we want our team to share in Arbor's successes, so we offer stock options to all employees.

In order for humanity to progress and thrive, we must appreciate Earth as the spaceship it is. Our atmosphere, and the diverse ecosystems it sustains, are our vital life support system against an otherwise inhospitable space. Equipped with an astronaut mindset, we treat our natural resources as precious and human kindness as essential.

Arbor is developing a scalable and low-cost approach to reverse humanity’s climate footprint, leveraging advanced rocket engine technology and Earth’s own natural rhythms. We are designing, manufacturing, and operating systems that will restore balance to the planet and set the foundation for a global circular economy. Our technology converts waste into clean energy and fresh water, while permanently removing CO2 from the atmosphere. We're using the same technology developed to get humans off the Earth to now help us save it.
