About the Job

About Carbonfuture

Carbonfuture is the Trust Infrastructure for durable carbon removal. Today, the Trust Infrastructure consists of two products that seamlessly connect the entire carbon removal lifecycle: Carbonfuture MRV+, the most comprehensive MRV solution for durable CDR, and Carbonfuture Marketplace, the leading marketplace for durable CDR. At Carbonfuture, we build trust throughout the carbon removal journey with our rigorous, data-driven approach, ensuring unmatched quality and reliability of carbon removal. We empower suppliers by providing the essential project support and finance needed to transform their carbon removal projects into fully certified carbon credits. For corporate buyers, we offer access to portfolios of carbon removal credits adhering to the highest quality standards and provide visibility at each step of the carbon removal lifecycle via data-driven transparency enabled by Carbonfuture MRV+. We work with some of the world's most ambitious climate leaders such as Microsoft, Swiss Re, and the World Economic Forum First Movers Coalition.

Your role & responsibilities:

We're looking for a motivated and skilled Frontend-leaning Full Stack Developer to help us build and evolve the digital backbone of our climate solutions. You’ll be a key player in crafting intuitive, performant, and visually engaging user experiences—while also contributing across the stack, from APIs to integrations. If you love turning complex workflows into elegant interfaces and care deeply about user-centric design, this might be your role.

From day one, you’ll collaborate directly with our CTO and agile product team, with plenty of ownership, room to grow, and a real impact on how we design and deliver software that matters.

What you'll do:

  • Drive the development of engaging, scalable frontend features for our MRV+ (Measurement, Reporting, Verification) and carbon marketplace platforms.

  • Collaborate closely with designers and other developers to bring high-quality user experiences to life.

  • Translate complex product and data requirements into intuitive UI components and user flows.

  • Contribute across the stack when needed—especially in crafting clean APIs, handling backend logic, or integrating new services.

  • Engage directly with customers to understand pain points and iterate rapidly on solutions.

  • Participate in architectural and UI/UX design discussions, helping shape the visual and functional direction of our software.

  • Support DevOps, CI/CD, and post-deployment improvements, with a frontend-first perspective.

What you bring to the table (required):

  • 3+ years of experience building production-ready web applications across the frontend and backend.

  • Strong passion for crafting beautiful, responsive, and accessible user interfaces.

  • Experience with React (or similar frontend frameworks), HTML/CSS, and modern JavaScript/TypeScript practices.

  • Comfortable working with backend technologies like Java, Spring Boot, Hibernate, and SQL when needed.

  • Solid understanding of software architecture and collaborative development workflows (Git, code reviews, etc.).

  • High degree of autonomy, creativity, and intrinsic motivation.

  • Excited to dive into new business domains and solve real-world problems.

  • Great command of English (German is a plus).

  • Open to occasional travel.

Benefits:

  • A ground-breaking business with an early foothold in the carbon removal industry and the ability to have a real impact on climate change

  • Small but rapidly growing, international team with a shared mission to address climate change

  • Flexible working hours and remote work with hybrid possible if you're close to Freiburg or Zurich

  • Competitive salary

  • 30 days paid leave + bank holidays

  • Sports benefits

  • nilo.health (Mental Health & Wellbeing)

  • Financial support for childcare

  • Nice colleagues and a friendly, open and inclusive environment

Candidates from cultures and backgrounds underrepresented in VC-backed startups and the climate space are strongly encouraged to apply. A diverse and inclusive workplace where we learn from each other is an integral part of our culture. We actively welcome people of different backgrounds, experiences, abilities, and perspectives. We are an equal-opportunity employer. In the case of equal suitability, preference is given to structurally discriminated individuals.

Are you passionate about addressing the urgent climate crisis? Look no further. At Carbonfuture, we are building the Trust Infrastructure for durable carbon removal so we can reach the necessary gigatonne scale and ensure a just and livable future for generations to come.

In 2019, a visionary concept laid the foundation for Carbonfuture - a scalable framework for carbon removal financing proposed by Hans-Peter Schmidt and Hansjörg Lerchenmüller. That idea became the starting point for Carbonfuture in 2020. Our goal was simple - to speed up the transition to a net-zero future by scaling carbon removal to the gigatonne level, securing a just and livable future for generations to come.

From the outset, Carbonfuture embraced a trust-first approach. We understood that instilling confidence in carbon removal was the key to unlocking its true potential in the fight against the climate crisis. The missing piece of the puzzle was a trust infrastructure that would revolutionize the carbon removal industry.

Fast forward to today, and our solution is already transforming the carbon removal industry. Our trust infrastructure for durable carbon removal seamlessly integrates the entire carbon removal lifecycle and brings trust to every step in the process.
