The Role

Cypress Creek Renewables is seeking a motivated candidate for a Project Developer to support development of transmission-scale solar, hybrid, and standalone energy storage projects in the WECC market. We are currently hiring for a Project Developer position that may be leveled as Developer I, Developer II, or Senior Project Developer, depending on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and demonstrated capabilities. This position would support the Development Department and would report to the VP of Development for the WECC market. As a Cypress Creek Renewables Project Developer, the candidate would manage 3-5 projects at various stages of project maturity.  

An effective candidate will demonstrate sound industry and project development knowledge, superior leadership and communication skills, the ability to focus on minute details while still seeing the big picture, be detail oriented, and possess a desire to solve complex problems. The right candidate will be someone who takes initiative, is results-oriented, and excels working with others across teams.  Working development experience within the geographic region is required, and candidates that have demonstrated experience leading late-stage projects to financial close is highly valued. This position will also support M&A screening and commercial origination efforts, offering the opportunity to work across a broad set of development and commercial responsibilities.

 

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Manage and lead development activities from greenfield to NTP by working with internal teams in areas including, but not limited to site acquisition, real estate and title, permitting, interconnection, engineering, survey, environmental, offtake, and policy.

  • Support greenfield development and site acquisition by identifying viable interconnection points and coordinating with land agents, consultants, and internal site acquisition team.

  • Prioritize, coordinate, review, and track key development deliverables with internal teams and external legal, zoning, environmental, interconnection, and engineering consultants.

  • Manage and report project data as it pertains to budget, schedule, and deliverables.

  • Achieve development milestones on time and on budget to successfully advance projects to financing and construction.

  • Gather market intelligence and expand relationships with government agencies, utilities, and other market participants to inform and refine project development and permitting processes.

  • Prepare and submit land use permitting applications, execute on permitting strategy, manage consultants, and attend and present at permitting meetings and hearings.

  • Review and manage project contract compliance for contracts including leases, interconnection agreements, and power purchase agreements.

  • Build strategic relationships with development, finance, and EPC partners.

  • Regular travel to visit project sites, and other Cypress Creek offices.

  • Assist in and lead strategy development and process refinement for the market.

  • Propose and manage project development budgets and schedules.

  • Support the offtake origination team on maturing relationships and securing PPAs with energy utilities and large C&I customers.

  • Lead market and business development efforts related to development functional areas in market.

 

Requirements

  • Four-year Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline such as business/finance, urban/regional planning, civil/electrical/power systems engineering, landscape architecture/architectural sciences, or environmental sciences.

  • Energy, environmental, urban planning, engineering, or business related Master’s degree is a plus.

  • 3-7+ years’ experience in renewable energy project development.

  • Familiarity with Western U.S. energy markets and permitting frameworks (e.g., California, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Oregon, Washington and Nevada policy landscapes).

  • Sound project management, budgeting, organizational, and analytical problem-solving skills.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders across varying timelines and priorities.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills

  • Strong work ethic and ability to self-start in a fast-paced environment

Compensation: The salary range for the position is $120,000-$165,000 plus bonus and benefits. Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location.

Location(s):  The position can be based in CCR’s Santa Monica or San Francisco, CA office.
