About the Job

The Mission

Munich-based OroraTech is developing a constellation of nano-satellites equipped with thermal infrared cameras for automated wildfire detection, severe weather warnings and various other applications. The technical foundation includes the three successful precursor missions: FOREST-1 (launched 2022), FOREST-2 (2023), and FOREST-3 (Jan 2025), OTC P2.

Following this path, we are now seeking talented engineers to help ramp up the batch production of satellites for the second, third, and subsequent orbital planes based on our in-house platform design. Your responsibilities will include designing and conducting integrations, tests, and calibrations of our optical instruments and satellite platforms. You will join a highly motivated and enthusiastic team of experts in mechanical, optical, electronic, aerospace, and software engineering.

What you’ll be doing

As an Assembly, Integration, and Testing (AIT) engineer you will:

  • Play a key role in the integration and testing of all subsystems in the satellites.

  • Be one of the last individuals to touch the systems before launching them into space.

  • Plan and perform the satellite's on-ground test campaigns, including vibration, thermal, and vacuum tests.

  • Prepare integration procedures and test documentation according to industry standards.

  • Contribute to mechanical (SolidWorks), electrical (Altium), and/or optical designs.

  • Prototype mechanical and electrical parts using our laboratories.

  • Collaborate with experts from other disciplines (mechanical, electrical, software, optics) to improve and scale up production.

Relevant Skills

  • Technical degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a comparable qualification.

  • Skilled in handling small mechanical parts and electronic systems.

  • Proven hands-on experience with mechanical tools, machines, or equipment.

  • Highly organized and structured approach to working in laboratories and clean rooms.

  • Proactive attitude towards problem-solving while maintaining high-quality standards.

  • Basic experience in mechanical design using CAD software.

  • Ability to communicate fluently in English with an international team.

Additionally, the following skills are optional but beneficial for the role:

  • Experience in rapid prototyping, e.g., 3D printing or laser-cutting.

  • Basic programming skills, e.g., scripting-level Python.

  • Experience in electronics design or testing.

  • Experience with space tests and qualification standards.

Our Benefits
As we start hiring in Canada, we're defining benefits for our Canadian office to align with those at our headquarters in Munich, ensuring consistency across all global offices. We Offer

At OroraTech you can expect a down to earth, yet high-caliber work environment. You will be part of the OroraTech team - a talented, international, open-minded team that is highly motivated to create impact. OroraTech gives you the opportunity to grow on a professional and personal level. Benefits include:

  • You have the opportunity to become part of our firefighting mission from space and deliver the tools to better cope with natural disasters and mitigate climate change - could an internship be any cooler?

  • You will gain insights into the most exciting new technologies and business models.

  • We value perfect espresso - you'll love our high-grade espresso machine. Additionally, free drinks and snacks are always available at the office.

  • Attractive office with modern labs at "Neue Balan" near Ostbahnhof with its own pool (yes!) and access to the rooftop terrace.

  • Flexible working time. Late sleeper? Early riser? Prefer to work from outside from time to time? We can make all of that happen.

  • Interested in something new but missing the knowledge? We offer you the opportunity to learn new skills depending on your personal interests.

  • Company events and get-togethers (Christmas, Summer party, Oktoberfest, etc.)

And always a great story to tell at parties:)
