About the Job
What is Sylvera anyway? 👩👨🌳
Sylvera provides trusted ratings, tools and data for carbon credits and CDR. Our mission is to incentivize investment in real climate action.
Purchasing carbon credits and CDR through the carbon markets is one of the most established and scalable ways to channel finance to effective climate solutions and work toward societal net zero. Unfortunately, the carbon markets were plagued with mistrust and a lack of effectiveness since they’ve emerged – until Sylvera.
To help organizations ensure they're making the most effective investments, Sylvera Trusted ratings, tools and data for carbon credits and CDR. Our data and software independently and accurately validates the impact of carbon projects that capture, remove, or avoid emission whether they are up and running, or in development. Our data and tools allow users to optimise both the climate and economic performance of projects as well as understand the past and future of the market. With Sylvera businesses, governments and developers can confidently invest in, benchmark, deliver, and report real climate impact.
Our team is made up of leading minds in climate change from scientists to policy, finance, and carbon market experts. We work in partnership with scientific organizations, universities, governments, and think tanks to develop and implement rigorous and holistic project assessment methodologies, leveraging the latest technology. We also partner with actors and institutions across the whole market to make data higher quality, more standard and more accessible. Founded in 2020, Sylvera has 130+ employees globally with offices in London, New York, Belgrade, and Singapore. We’ve raised over $96 million from leading investors like Fidelity, Balderton Capital, Index Ventures, and Insight Partners to date.
What will I be doing? 👩💻👨💻
We’re looking for a mission-driven, high-potential intern who’s excited by interdisciplinary work and eager to learn. This role sits within our Applied Solutions Team, a group of engineers and analysts working directly with customers, product, and commercial teams to rapidly solve real customer problems.
The work will be fast-paced, hands-on, and varied from building new datasets to integrating them into minimum-viable-products or custom solutions for some of our most strategic clients. You’ll have the chance to contribute to projects that are shaping the future of climate solutions.
Specific responsibilities will include:
Reviewing project documentation and extracting key data
Supporting client deliverables such as slide decks and reports
Performing spatial analysis and statistics on geospatial datasets to identify trends across space and time
Acquiring, cleaning, transforming, and modeling geospatial data for repeated use
Contributing to data analysis, MVP development, or one-off analyses for strategic clients, partners, or enterprise prospects
Researching scientific literature and economic publications to extract variables relevant to geospatial analysis
Learning new scientific and technical domains quickly (with support from the team)
Labeling geospatial data to support service testing and prototyping
Collaborating with Marketing, Sales Enablement, and Product teams to explore broader applications of your analysis and help graduate prototypes into the product roadmap
Working with Marketing, Commercial, and Product on wider applications of analysis or to support graduation of prototypes into the main product roadmap
We’re looking for someone who:
Able to answer geospatial questions programmatically using open-source libraries (vector and raster formats)
Comfortable working in Python and SQL (experience in software development using these is a plus)
Experienced in creating training data and developing machine learning algorithms using high-resolution satellite imagery
Enthusiastic about geospatial data science and keen to deepen your skills
Strong quantitative analytical skills, with demonstrated experience in spatial statistics
Experience in climate science, natural risk, or meteorological modeling is a plus
Experience with causal inference is a significant bonus
A self-starter with strong interpersonal skills, able to collaborate in a fast-moving, high-uncertainty environment
Practical work experience of any kind whether in hospitality, manufacturing, startups, or professional services
Deeply cares about the climate and the ecosystems of our planet
