The Engineer I position is the entry level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees in the Engineer I position solve problems in engineering areas of specialization with close supervision. An Engineer I is expected to develop skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. An Engineer I has knowledge of fundamental concepts and procedures.
Employees in the Engineer II position solve complex problems in engineering areas of specialization with general supervision. An Engineer II is expected to develop advanced skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. An Engineer II effectively applies fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is complex and varied.
The Engineer I, II position will support Dan River CC & Rockingham CT as the Distributed Controls System/Electrical System owner.
Responsibilities Engineer I, II
Serving as the site subject matter expert for the assigned electrical/controls systems.
Monitoring and trending system/component performance.
Interfacing with external vendors to ensure technical issues are properly resolved.
Directing onsite testing and troubleshooting activities for emergent issues.
Coordinating cross functionally with other departments (such as Design Engineering, Transmission, Maintenance & Operations) to ensure system concerns, schedules, budgeting, and related issues are properly addressed.
Ensuring regulatory compliance is maintained
Evaluates Fleet Operating Experience and industry learnings to improve Equipment Reliability.
Evaluating preventative maintenance (PM) program performance and recommending performance-based adjustments.
Responsible for maintaining the configuration of station and turbine-specific Distributed Control System (DCS), supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), and programmable logic controllers (PLC) process control systems to ensure safe, reliable, and regulatory compliant operation of power stations
Develop the scope, technical basis, installation and testing requirements for engineering design changes, which include but are not limited to AC power systems, DC power systems, Large AC motors, Transformers, Switchgear, Motor Control Centers, Voltage Regulators, Breakers, etc.
Manage any external control system vendor support as a single point of contact (SPOC)
Interface with operations & maintenance, assisting with any other electrical/control system challenges and needs
Coordinate with cyber security specialists for scheduling and implementing necessary patching as well as database management
Manage the control/electrical system vendor contracts, including on-call support, maintenance, and parts agreements
Maintain plant risk grid for system/equipment responsibilities
Proficient in practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.
Basic/Required Qualifications - Engineer I
Bachelors Degree in Engineering
Basic Required Qualifications - Engineer II
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and minimum of 2 years related work experience
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Electrical Engineering Degree is strongly preferred.
Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles.
Understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.
Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Experience in Power Generation
Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam.
Controls systems (Ovation, Mark VIE, T3000)
Department specific experience applicable to the hiring department.
Understanding of basic principles of project management.
Combustion Turbine and Combined Cycle Experience
Experience in the utility industry.
Specific Requirements
Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program
A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree.
