About the position

The Customer Operations department is responsible for ensuring our customers get the best value out of our products and effectively use them to make their vessels more efficient. This includes maintaining customer relationships, integrating with the customer’s onboard and cloud IT systems, configuring the product for use by the customer, providing expert advice and consulting with the customer on their use of the products, educating and informing them of important product information, providing support and resolving customer queries, and coordinating both outsourcers and teams within DeepSea who work on the above. They relay feedback from customers and their own expertise to help drive strategy, communications and product development.


DeepSea is looking for an experienced Customer Engineer to take ownership of our vessel data integration and customer technical onboarding. This role will work closely with the Data Operations and Engineering teams, and will ensure the seamless integration of vessel systems into our platforms, configure and maintain data pipelines, and support the delivery of reliable, high-quality data to our customers. The department is responsible for enabling the accurate flow of operational data from vessels to our analytics platforms, ensuring smooth onboarding experiences, maintaining system health, and supporting ongoing customer operations.


Our products are used by shipping company engineers and captains to optimise the technical operations and navigation of their vessels based on our in-house developed AI and optimisation algorithms. You will need to gain a good understanding of our products and act as a champion of the AI-driven approach to vessel performance optimisation.


What you will do: 

  • Analyse customers’ on-board systems to determine how the physical quantities represented by their outputs map to our system’s inputs and configure our system to enable integration

  • Configure the details of new vessels into our platform and set up new users and access rights

  • Support and maintain the live data feed of existing vessels and vendors 

  • Build automation and integration tools between databases 

  • Collect and analyse data, plan and prepare reports 

  • Design, construct, maintain and troubleshoot data architecture, including writing code for required customisations 

  • Coordinate deliverables and their dependencies with task management tools 

  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation

The ideal candidate will have: 

  • A degree in Engineering or a relevant field 

  • Good knowledge of Excel and SQL 

  • Skills in Python or other similar programming languages 

  • Good experience with Linux 

  • At least 2 years of work experience in a similar role will be considered an asset

  • Any previous experience in the maritime industry will be considered an asset

  • Excellent communication, problem-solving and time-management skills 

  • Fluency in the English language, both written and verbal

  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail

  • Results-oriented mindset
