The ideal candidate will have demonstrable, hands-on experience in developing carbon credit projects under Verra standards, with specific expertise in Afforestation, Reforestation, and Revegetation (ARR) and/or Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) methodologies. Experience working with or for a consulting firm in this sector is highly desirable.This is a remote, freelance/contract position with flexible engagement terms. We are open to discussing hourly rates or project-based compensation.Key Responsibilities<ul><li>Provide expert guidance on the structuring of carbon credit projects, ensuring alignment with Verra's Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program requirements.</li><li>Advise on the application of relevant Verra methodologies, particularly ARR (e.g., VM0047 and its latest iterations) and REDD+ (e.g., VM0048 and associated modules like VMD0055 for avoided unplanned deforestation).</li><li>Assist in the development of Project Design Documents (PDDs) and other necessary documentation for Verra validation and verification.</li><li>Support in navigating the Verra project registration and credit issuance processes.</li><li>Advise on best practices for monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) systems compliant with Verra standards.</li><li>Provide strategic insights on carbon market dynamics, credit pricing, and offtake agreements, particularly concerning Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and the voluntary carbon market.</li><li>Collaborate with Verdara’s internal team and local stakeholders to ensure project activities meet the rigorous requirements for high-integrity carbon credit generation.</li><li>Offer insights into ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) alignment and reporting for carbon projects.</li></ul>Qualifications and Experience<ul><li>Proven track record of successfully structuring and developing carbon credit projects under Verra standards. Specific, demonstrable experience with ARR and/or REDD+ projects is essential.</li><li>In-depth understanding of Verra’s VCS Program, including methodologies (specifically familiarity with VM0047, VM0048, and related modules), validation, verification, and registration processes.</li><li>Familiarity with the latest developments in Verra standards, including updates to ARR methodologies and the evolving REDD+ framework.</li><li>Experience in quantifying carbon removals/reductions, developing baselines, and demonstrating additionality as per Verra requirements.</li><li>Knowledge of international carbon markets, including compliance markets (e.g., Article 6 of the Paris Agreement) and the voluntary carbon market.</li><li>Previous experience working with a consulting firm specializing in carbon finance, climate change mitigation, or sustainable land use is a significant advantage.</li><li>Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.</li><li>Ability to work independently and deliver high-quality outputs within agreed timelines.</li><li>A degree in environmental science, forestry, climate change, sustainable development, or a related field is preferred.</li></ul>Engagement ModelThe initial engagement for this role will be on an hourly consulting basis.
