Sorcerer is deploying a global network of persistent airborne sensors to fuel weather forecasting. Our high-altitude balloons collect 1000x more data than existing systems and are already used daily by meteorologists to track extreme weather across the US and Central America.

About the role

As a GNC Simulation Engineer at Sorcerer you’ll develop software for path-planning and targeting within our network of high-altitude balloons.

You’ll own the entire simulation stack from idea to integration within our mission control software.Initially, you’ll work closely with our CPO - eventually transitioning to a full-time role. If this sort of thing interests you we’d love to meet you!

Responsibilities

• Develop real-time and historical path finding simulations for navigation our balloon network

• Run historical analysis for targeting feasibility studies

• Support integration of simulation software into mission control

• Test and validate simulations in realtime using real mission data

  
  

Required Experience

• 4+ years of software development experience (Python)

• Experience modeling physics and flight dynamics

• Experience developing multi-agent (self-organizing) systems

  
  

Ideal Candidates

• Have handled 3D weather/atmospheric data (ERA5, etc)

• Have worked on high-altitude vehicles (rockets, fixed-wing, balloons)

• Are comfortable with modern web development (React, Node, TypeScript)

• Can navigate AWS and build cloud first solutions for large scale simulations

• Succeed with a high level of autonomy

• Aren’t afraid of scrappy, unconventional problem solving

• This is an in-office role at our HQ in SOMA, San Francisco. For exceptional candidates we may consider remote work
