About the Job
Princeton NuEnergy ("PNE") is a lithium-ion battery direct recycling and critical materials recovery innovator, founded out of Princeton University. At its core, PNE's patented recycling technology is based on a low-temperature plasma-assisted separation process (LPAS™) that does not damage but, rather, reclaims and repairs cathode material from spent lithium-ion batteries and manufacturing scrap at half the cost with significantly lower waste when compared with existing traditional recycling processes.
We are seeking a driven R&D Engineer to join our innovative team. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing and analyzing tests to ensure the safety, performance, and reliability of lithium-ion batteries. This role requires a strong background in battery technology, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
WHAT WILL YOU BE WORKING ON
- Execute testing protocols for lithium-ion batteries, including cycle life, charge/discharge performance, thermal stability, and safety
- Set up laboratory and field tests to evaluate battery performance under various conditions
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations during testing procedures
- Analyze test results to identify trends, anomalies, and areas for improvement
- Prepare detailed reports and documentation on test outcomes, including data interpretation and recommendations
- Present findings to internal teams and contribute to the development of solutions based on test results
- Work closely with R&D, engineering, and manufacturing teams to ensure that testing aligns with product development and quality assurance processes
- Collaborate with external partners and suppliers to coordinate testing activities and share insights
- Maintain and calibrate testing equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability
- Oversee the setup and maintenance of testing facilities, ensuring a safe and efficient working environment.
- Stay current with advancements in battery technology and testing methodologies
- Propose and implement improvements to testing processes and equipment to enhance efficiency and accuracy

- Familiar with cell design, including slurry making, coating, drying, and calendaring electrodes for pouch and coin cell assembly
- Familiar with building and assembling coin and pouch cells with precision and consistency
- Proficiency in using testing equipment such as cyclers, environmental chambers, and data acquisition systems
- Familiar with battery materials characterization tools, like SEM, XRD, XPS, TGA, BET, PSA and etc. would be a plus
- Experience with data analysis software and statistical tools
