About the Job
About Helion
We are a fusion power company based in Everett, WA, with the mission to build the world's first fusion power plant, enabling a future with unlimited clean electricity. Our vision is a world with clean, reliable, and affordable energy for everyone.
Since Helion's founding in 2013, we have raised over $1 billion from long-time investors such as Sam Altman, Mithril, and Capricorn Investment Group as well as new investors SoftBank and Lightspeed to propel us forward. Our last prototype, Trenta, completed 10,000 high-power pulses and reached plasma temperatures of 100 million degrees Celsius (9 keV). We are now operating Polaris, our next prototype on the path to the world's first fusion power plant.
This is a pivotal time to join Helion. You will tackle real-world challenges with a team that prizes urgency, rigor, ownership, and a commitment to delivering hard truths – values essential to achieving what no one has before. Together, we will change the future of energy, because the world can't wait.
What You Will Be Doing:
You will lead cross-subsystem integration and test activities for Helion’s current and future fusion generator prototypes. This is a hands-on, onsite role with broad technical scope and responsibility through build and commissioning phases. You will report to the Mechanical Engineering Lead and play a key role in shaping the execution and culture of a growing engineering team.
You Will:
Own the integration sequence and day-to-day execution of assembly across generator subsystems, including vacuum systems, electromagnets, high-voltage capacitor systems, controls, diagnostics, and radiation safety
Develop and manage a multidisciplinary schedule on a daily and weekly basis to ensure full build completion
Define, plan, and execute integrated subsystem tests in collaboration with subsystem owners
Lead build completion reviews to verify operational readiness and test preparedness
Collaborate with production, test, and engineering teams to improve integration and build processes
Author work instructions for technician teams to support both nominal builds and non-conformance resolution
Lead root cause analyses and implement corrective actions during integration and build
Drive strategies for hardware upgrades, replacements, and integration improvements to maximize uptime
Perform trade studies on build sequencing, hardware prioritization, and resource allocation to influence Helion’s system development approach
Required Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field
3+ years of professional experience delivering full-scope engineering projects, including schedule ownership
Demonstrated use of engineering first-principles and structured problem-solving
Hands-on experience across multiple engineering disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, and fluids
Effective technical communication across functional and organizational levels
