Position Specific Description

NextEra Energy is looking for an Electrical Studies subject matter expert to join our Energy Storage team. This candidate would prepare and review studies for utility-scale battery projects to support our quickly growing fleet. This would include arc flash analysis, reactive power studies, TOV studies, and other simulations as required. 

Duties & Responsibilities

•    Support design phase and engineer major components for large-scale energy storage projects.
•    Recognize inconsistencies in engineering drawings, take corrective action, and strive for better design quality and efficiency.
•    Identify and resolve errors in engineering studies and suggest future solutions.
•    Prepare technical scopes of work for contracts.
•    Influence project teams on engineering tasks.
•    Work with diverse teams to solve problems, improve opportunities, and integrate systems and controls.
•    Understand specifications for major equipment purchasing, ensure clear communication, and propose solutions
•    Understand permitting requirements, propose solutions to legal challenges, and recommend site design improvements.
•    Handle other assigned duties as needed.
•    Travel 10% of the time for project specific duties.
 

Desired Experience:

•    Bachelors in Electrical Engineering (Masters Preferred) 
•    7+ Years experience Solar/PV Engineering and/or Construction
•    Expertise in one or more of these areas: Power electronics, Battery storage system design, Substation design, Generation tie design.
•    Proficient in ETAP, PSCAD and PSSE software
•    Familiarity with energy storage technologies, including battery chemistries, power conversion units, and DC/DC converters.
•    Familiarity with lithium-ion battery storage safety standards (UL1973, UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA 855, NFPA 70E, NEC, applicable IFC/IBC sections)
•    Familiarity with IEC 61215, 61646, 61730
•    Ability to handle specialized technical tasks independently.
•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Job Overview

  • Manages one or more programs of complex diversity and scope which are of critical importance to overall company objectives
  • Acts as a subject matter expert
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
