About the Job

Sublime is advancing a breakthrough, clean, efficient, low-waste process for manufacturing cement, the essential ingredient in the most-consumed human-made material on Earth: concrete. Replacing 200-year-old manufacturing methods that are reliant on kilns running hotter than lava, our near-ambient-temperature, electrochemical technology manufactures industry-accepted cement and critical minerals. We’re partnering with leading general contractors, concrete producers, developers, and technology hyperscalers to deploy our clean, durable, beautiful Sublime Cement® in infrastructure that is defining the future of clean construction. Backed by some of the world’s largest cement producers, leading private investors, and the U.S. Department of Energy, we are assembling a talented, collaborative team that is "amped about cement" (pun intended) and committed to operating on the frontiers of material science, manufacturing, industry, construction, and commercial partnerships, to advance cement innovation that will endure for the next millennium.

Position Overview:

Sublime Systems is seeking R&D Lab Assistants to contribute to the development of our innovative cement technology. The R&D Lab Assistant will support laboratory operations to help accelerate our path toward commercialization. This position is in-person at Sublime Systems’ headquarters (28 Dane St, Somerville, MA 02143). We are looking for candidates available to work between 30–35 hours per week, including 4-6 hr shift on Saturdays and periodic Sunday shifts. In addition, at least three weekday shifts are expected. All shifts will occur during business hours (8 AM to 6 PM), with flexibility for morning or afternoon coverage depending on candidate availability. Educational experience in a related field is preferred. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in hands-on lab work and supporting a mission-driven company in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Preparing supplies and materials for testing (e.g. cleaning and assembling cement cube molds, weighing out quantities of cement and other materials)
  • Performing simple measurements and recording data (e.g. using a compression testing machine to measure the strength of cement samples and recording the results)
  • Organizing the R&D laboratory space (e.g. putting away tools, discarding used cement samples, tidying up work benches, sorting and labeling buckets of material)

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • Must reliably show up and complete scheduled work shifts
  • Must be able to learn basic laboratory procedures from R&D scientists, follow directions carefully, and pay attention to detail
  • Must work safely in a laboratory environment using materials such as cement and basic R&D laboratory equipment such as a compression testing machine
  • Must have basic computer skills including the ability to accurately enter data into Microsoft Excel spreadsheets
  • Must have strong organizational skills to keep track of assigned tasks using a to do list and to arrange supplies and materials in Sublime’s laboratory
  • Must be proactive and self-motivated
  • Must be able to communicate with colleagues in a clear and professional manner
  • Must be able to lift objects up to 50 lbs

<div>Sublime Systems is a technology company commercializing affordable, ultra low-carbon cement that can be used in virtually any application under existing standards. Sublime's breakthrough process replaces the industry's legacy fossil fuel-fired kilns with an electrochemical system that operates at ambient temperature and eliminates the use of fossil fuel and limestone, resulting in a zero-carbon, low-embodied energy cement. This technology has the potential to drive gigaton-scale reductions in an industry responsible for 8 percent of global emissions. Sublime is backed by mission-aligned investors, including The Engine, Prime Impact Fund, Energy Impact Partners, and Lowercarbon Capital.
