Responsibilities
JOB PURPOSE
Support the Energy Management Team by administering the Renewable Energy Credit and Offset portfolio, including recommending strategy, financial analysis, reporting, and monetization of the portfolio.
Key Accountabilities
- Serve as a lead strategist and originator of short-term positions on our REC portfolio.
- Identify open positions and create a hedging strategy in line with the risk appetite of the organization and expertise in market fundamentals.
- Coordinate and communicate with various outside groups on market fundamentals to understand drivers affecting pricing and commercial optimization strategy. Serve as the primary SME to drive changes in strategy across all ISOs where Pattern maintains a merchant position.
- Track and analyze portfolio performance and present results regularly to management team to drive analytical and behavioral changes in trading strategy.
- Serve as a key customer facing contact in the industry and coordinate with origination on strategy to link short/mid-term origination to long-term deals where applicable.
Qualifications
Experience/Qualifications/Education Required
- BS in Business or a related field; prior experience in the energy industry, preferably in renewables.
- Ability to analyze and synthesize data quickly to make smart, risk averse business decisions.
- Ability to interpret contracts and incorporate the terms into commercial and financial analysis to make decisions.
- Experience in management of energy assets and/or revenue optimization.
- Ability to model via spreadsheet generation estimates and use formulas to automatically update inventory positions and to develop dynamic hedge strategy modelling.
Additional Requirements
- Understanding power market operations and wind energy operations.
- Ability to manage many projects simultaneously and have strong organization and Microsoft Excel skills to perform ad hoc analysis on a regular basis, with an ability to assess future needs to extend analysis into long term use.
- Ability to analyze, process, and anticipate multiple factors affecting renewable generation such as weather, transmission system operation, fuel mix, and demand and supply conditions, to make optimal trading decisions, including long in advance of settlement dates (year out).
- Ability to communicate professionally and effectively during contract negotiations with counterparties and ability to read contracts with an understanding of legal and commercial terms.
