Are you ready to turn data into action and help drive sustainability at one of the nation’s largest community college districts? As an Energy & Sustainability Associate in the Climate Corps Fellowship program, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to impactful climate resiliency & sustainability initiatives with the Los Angeles Community College District. This is an on-site position with the expectation of on-site work 5 days per week.
This position requires the employee to be physically located in the Los Angeles area at the time of hire. Only candidates currently residing within commuting distance of the site will be considered.
Join the Los Angeles Community College District as a Sustainability Fellow to help drive climate action and gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge energy and decarbonization projects across our campuses. The Energy & Sustainability Associate will support districtwide sustainability efforts by updating the AASHE STARS assessment, benchmarking utility data, and assisting with the development of a greenhouse gas inventory using SIMAP. The role involves collecting and analyzing data across key impact areas (transportation, energy, waste, water), collaborating with shared governance committees, and supporting ongoing projects through research, grant writing, and rebate applications. The Fellow will also supervise student interns and lead sustainability communications by creating infographics, case studies, videos, and training materials..

This role is a great opportunity to build hands-on experience in sustainability reporting, data analysis, and climate action while helping LACCD advance its districtwide sustainability goals.
About Our Partner: Los Angeles Community College District
The Los Angeles Community College District has served the Los Angeles area for nearly 90 years and is the largest community college district in the United States. The District enrolls about 205,000 students annually, covers more than 882 square miles, and consists of nine colleges: Los Angeles City College, East Los Angeles College, Los Angeles Harbor College, Los Angeles Mission College, Los Angeles Pierce College, Los Angeles Southwest College, Los Angeles Trade Technical College, Los Angeles Valley College, and West Los Angeles College. The District is also noted for its diverse population that mirrors the population of the city of Los Angeles. All nine colleges are predominantly minority serving, 8 are classified as Hispanic-Serving Institutions, 2 are classified as Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions, and 1 is classified as a Predominantly Black Institution. The District plays an important role in the community as a pathway to educational and economic opportunity and as a civic and cultural resource.
What You’ll Do
- Update the STARS assessment tool.
- Benchmark with Energy Star Portfolio Manager and other utility reports.
- Assist with SIMAP GHG Inventory development.
- Collaborate with Shared Governance Committees.
- Collect and analyze data on transportation, energy, waste, and water.
- Support ongoing sustainability projects.
- Enhance operational sustainability by securing rebates, writing grants, and performing other tasks.
- Supervise LACCD student interns and assign RSCA-related tasks.
- Communications.
- Create infographics, case studies, videos, and training materials.
What We’re Looking For
- College degree (sustainability-related field or engineering preferred; relevant experience also considered).
- Strong writing, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and with diverse groups.
- Proven project planning and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Problem-solving and creative thinking.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
- Experience with data analytics tools (e.g., SkySpark, Tableau, Python, ArcGIS).
- Basic math and data analysis skills.
- Community engagement and outreach experience.
- The ability to work onsite on a full-time basis.
- Coursework or related experience in environmental fields (e.g., internships, volunteer work) is preferred.

- Authorization to work in the United States for the duration of the fellowship (SEI is unable to sponsor visas).
- May require occasional moving about to accomplish tasks, moving from one worksite to another, or adjusting or moving objects under 25-50 pounds in all directions.
