About the Job
Process Development: You will play a vital role in developing the next generation of Direct Air Capture technology. As the fluid and heat flow dynamics specialist, you will support the rest of the Process Development team in modelling, validating and optimizing the Climeworks carbon capture process.
CFD Analysis: You will perform CFD analysis in order to predict and optimize the fluid and heat flows at various scales — from small-scale modelling of our filter structures to large-scale atmospheric dispersion modelling that informs plant architecture and improves the CO2 removal capacity of our technology.
Collaboration with Mechanical Design: You will collaborate closely with your mechanical design colleagues across departments. You will contribute to the design of new structures, vessels, and plant architectures. You will provide temperature, velocity, and other boundary conditions to our design engineers.
Model Development: You drive the improvement roadmap for our CFD models. In collaboration with external partners, you will develop new techniques to enhance the accuracy and applicability of our simulations, including complex multiphase and multiphysics flows.
Validation & Measurement: You plan, execute, and evaluate validation measurements, and draw meaningful conclusions from your findings. You will collaborate with our Testing teams in ensuring our models are robust and well-calibrated.
Communication & Presentation: You communicate results, findings, and observations clearly and concisely to peers, and present them in technical reviews.
Experience & Expertise: You are a proactive and innovative process or mechanical engineer with at least 5 years of experience in Computational Fluid Dynamics. You have a strong technical background in thermodynamics, porous media, fluid mechanics, and/or thermal energy modelling. Experience with multiphase systems is a plus.
Technical Proficiency: You have proven experience in running CFD simulations and a solid understanding of fluid mechanics, as well as experience in evaluation of heat transfer behavior through thermal analysis.
Software Skills: You are proficient in ANSYS FLUENT and geometry meshing tools (Workbench, Fluent Mesher, Discovery, Space Claim, etc.).
Collaboration & Working Style: You are a collaborative team player with an innovative but structured way of working.
Language Skills: You are fluent in English.
Our promise:
At Climeworks, you are accepted for who you are, and we are committed to building an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued. We encourage all qualified applicants to apply – regardless of background, identity, or experience. Studies show that women and individuals from minority backgrounds often only apply for jobs when they meet 100% of the listed criteria. If this sounds like you, don’t hold back. If you think you’d make a great fit for this role, we’d love to hear from you, even if you don’t check every single box. Let’s tackle one of humankind’s greatest challenges together.
What we offer:
Time Off: Enjoy 25 paid vacation days every year, plus public holidays.
Flexibility: Work how it suits you best. We offer a hybrid work setup and up to 4 weeks of remote work annually within any EU country.
Ownership: Fair base pay paired with an equity package – because your contributions matter.
Family Support: Inclusive parental leave.
Continuous Learning: Dedicated budget to invest in your professional growth.
Referral Rewards: Help us grow our team and earn bonuses for your successful referrals.
Salary:
At Climeworks, salary ranges are assigned to a job based on the level of seniority and the location specific market median of similar jobs according to external benchmark surveys. Individual compensation depends on your skills, experience, and the value you bring to the team.
Formalities:
This position is based in Opfikon, Zurich, and we ask that you work onsite at least three days per week.
We do not accept candidate profiles through recruitment agencies.

Climeworks

Climeworks empowers people to fight climate change by permanently removing CO₂ from the air with direct air capture technology. We are dedicated to purpose, we are disruptive thinkers, and we are one team.

We develop, build and operate direct air capture (DAC) machines, which capture CO₂ directly from the air. The air-captured carbon dioxide can either be recycled and reused as a raw material or completely removed from the air by safely storing it underground, permanently.

Founded in 2009 by engineers, Christoph Gebald and Jan Wurzbacher, Climeworks was built with the vision to inspire 1 billion people to remove CO₂ from the air, and is now the leader in technological carbon removal.

We are featured as a TIME100 Influential Company 2022 and Global Cleantech 100 Company 2022 and drive a revolutionary technology engineered to solve the most pressing issue of our time.
