Halter
Geospatial Software Engineer

About the Job
About the role
Halter is changing the paradigm farmers operate in. Rather than solely relying on an internal model of their farm in their head, Halter elevates this with a digital one. Our digital farm provides farmers with real-time data, aiding in decision making, and then the tools to directly action those decisions.
Our geospatial platform is fundamental to making this product a reality. It provides farmers with a high quality, high resolution image of their farm, and provides us with crucial topographic data. We’re seeking a dedicated owner who can support and extend this platform as we scale, particularly as we enter new markets.
This role sits at the intersection of software engineering, cloud infrastructure, and geospatial systems. This is not a traditional GIS analyst role.
You’ll be responsible for
⛰️ Geospatial data pipeline: Fetching and transforming orthographic imagery and topographic data from drone scans, government sources or 3rd parties
🤖 Backend services: Owning and extending the backend that serves terrain and imagery tiles to our internal and customer-facing tools.
🚁 Drone scan automation: Automating the full photogrammetry pipeline, from raw drone outputs to 3D reconstructions and GeoTIFFs, reliably and hands-off.
🧠 Model deployment: Operationalising geospatial ML models, ensuring they run reliably, performantly, and cost-effectively.
📈 Scaling infrastructure: Building the observability, robustness, and automation required to scale our systems as we grow and enter new markets.
Who are we looking for?
You’re lazy (in a good way). You’re not content with inefficient manual processes that don’t scale well, so you seek to simplify and automate the ways we work, removing constraints to Halter’s growth.
You’re a driver not a passenger. You don’t wait for jobs to be given to you, instead you sit in the driver's seat and take matters into your own hands. Halter’s success is your success (literally through ESOP grants), so you proactively find ways to maximise your impact.
You own your domain. This is not an operations role, but there are operational teams that depend on what you build. Ownership means supporting our operational teams when necessary, and having the foresight to solve problems before they happen.
You’re comfortable navigating various time horizons. You’re able to support Halter’s business needs today, while also planning for Halter’s future needs.
More concretely:
Strong software engineering skills (Python, Go)
Cloud infrastructure (AWS, Terraform, Docker, CI/CD)
Experience with geospatial formats & tools or an eagerness to learn (GeoTIFF, GDAL, tiling systems, coordinate reference systems)
Proficiency in contemporary AI companions and tooling for software and engineering productivity (e.g., Copilot, ChatGPT, Cursor)
Bonus: experience with machine learning operations or photogrammetry
