Engineering Technologist III

This is the third level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role job classification.  Engineering Technologist III provide technical expertise to solve more complex problems and leadership skills to provide oversight and direction of work in a specific area of expertise, with limited supervision.  Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with a high degree of independence. 


Senior Engineering Technologist

The Senior Engineering Technologist position is the fourth level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role job classification and considered the career level for the job hierarchy.  Senior Engineering Technologists provide technical expertise to solve more complex problems, and leadership skills to manage work in a specific area of expertise, with minimal supervision.  Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently with increased latitude for unreviewed work. 


The performer would be responsible for Transmission Tie, Retail and Customer Substation design.  This includes drawing package development, bill of material creation, production standard implementation, consultant management and oversight, and providing support during construction in addition to other associated activities.


With Some Supervision:

  • Provides deep technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems in area of expertise.

  •  Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities.  

  • Independently prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches.

  • Conducts engineering and related studies.  

  • Strives to continually improve job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance.

  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.


Basic/Required Qualifications (Engineering Technologist III):

  • Either 3+ years of relevant industry experience coupled with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 5+ years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 9+ years equivalent experience without a degree.


Basic/Required Qualifications (Senior Engineering Technologist):

  • Either 6+ years of relevant industry experience coupled with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 8+ years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 12+ years equivalent experience without a degree.

  • Has a valid driver’s license


Desired Qualifications

  • Substation experience – construction and/or maintenance.

  • Skills and knowledge of substation best construction and design practice.

  • Knowledge of transmission and distribution line interface with substations.

  • Some knowledge of protective relaying considerations associated with Substation Design.

  • Knowledge of crew types, crew capabilities and how a project flows in a construction schedule.

  • Able to effectively apply basic principles of project management.

  • Ability to support Substation Engineering and Field Construction alliance for quality improvement.

  • Basic Microsoft skills

  • Basic CAD skills

  • 3D modeling skills using Inventor

  • Basic Maximo experience

  • Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
