The Shipping/Receiving Clerk will be responsible for the receiving, shipping, and dispersing of materials to designated areas within the Cheektowaga facility.  In this role, the individual will also be required to create and maintain records of materials as required; including bill of lading, pick lists, receipt documents, air bills, labels, cycle count sheets, etc. to assure product traceability. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in all shipping and receiving processes and have experience with Power Industrial Vehicle (PIV) and overhead cranes.  We offer a full benefits package to include Paid Time Off, health, dental, investment savings plan, and other additional miscellaneous benefits.    


CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:  To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Unloads carriers, uncrates, unpacks, and separates materials.  Verifies materials (type, quantity, etc.) and records information as required on purchase requisitions.  Enters appropriate information into systems via computer or manually generated forms. 

  • Delivers and assists in delivering materials from unloading points using appropriate equipment.

  • Weigh and/or physically count all materials to verify quantities, descriptions, actual date of receipt, concealed damage, etc. enter appropriate information into the computer to indicate status.  Answer all inquiries as to material status.

  • Upon receipt of goods print labels electronically or manually, sort and properly tag materials, transfer heat numbers, material specifications etc. to materials.  Move all goods to designated areas, racks, locations as required.

  • Inventory shipping dock to status materials, generate Bill of Lading electronically or manually, export docs, air bills, etc.

  • Identify items which can’t be shipped due to holds, lack of adequate information, etc. and notify supervisor or proper individuals of necessary information required to enable shipment.

  • Load or assists in the loading of product onto the proper carrier.

  • Stacks pallets and shrink wraps bulk shipments in a manner which will assure proper delivery.

  • Properly gather and verify any stock units to meet shipping and customer requirements.

  • Designates location of product to carriers which is to be loaded.

  • Answer inquiries regarding PO status, shipping status, etc. of parts and units.

  • Rotate on a continuous basis (as directed) between both operations (shipping and receiving) to maintain skill levels and familiarity with all functions of the operations.

  • Ensures electric power vehicles are placed on charge at the end of each shift use.

  • Observe all safety and shop rules.

  • Each person is responsible for the quality of work and inspection checking to ensure that all product or pieces meet specifications and quantities without deviation and report any such deviations.

  • Assists and/or trains new employees in the job classification.

  • Maintain good housekeeping and safe environment throughout work area, sweeps area, clear debris, arranges product, etc. on a daily basis to assure this.  Notifies supervisor of any unsafe conditions.

  • Perform work requiring a thorough knowledge of practices and techniques, and operation of various types.


QUALIFICATIONS:


Education

  • High School diploma or equivalency

Experience

  • One year’s experience in shipping and receiving.

  • Prior experience operating a Power Industrial Vehicle (PIV) and overhead crane.


DAY IN THE LIFE:


In this role, the working environment is a normal manufacturing facility and will be required to work outdoors in all type of weather, be required to wear safety glasses and hearing protection at all times, will load hazardous waste materials for shipment, etc. and the physical demands may include but not limited to  sitting, standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 35 lbs.
